I am in love - wonder if I could DIY

Or more accurately, have a friend who professionally airbrushes snowboard designs and the like DIY it *for* me! My mesh overlay LBD would be a perfect canvas . . .

Una, I think it might turn brownish pink? I can't remember, but I had a mishap with a work shirt once that might have once been black . . . or was it brown? I would NOT trust myself to this, that's for sure.

Erm... not to burst the bubble, but I think that dress is too awesome to risk a DIY on. I love the idea, but maybe try it on a cheapie/thrifted dress.

Oooh, I didn't mean on the mesh dress - I thought you were going to do some thrifted dress. Maybe dying a white dress black would work better.

You would have to use white fabric paint. Unless you silkscreen it, there's a risk of flaking off.

I can see why you want to DIY it - but I'm with Rae. Your dress is pretty darn awesome... Hmm... Maybe find a similar dress and get a thrifted or less expensive version on eBay?

I like Una's idea of trying it on a white dress. It might be very difficult to bleach the black dress. And the black dress you have is lovely! I wouldn't want to risk ruining it.

Love your existing dress too much to risk the change. I agree with others, though. Find a white dress that will take dye well and have your friend give it a shot-it's a fabulous look you're going for, and in the hands of a talented artist, could be an amazing DIY.
