I actually went thrifting!

I have written before how I am not much of a thrifter, but went out to get something for DD4 and got a $1 skirt and a $4 denim jacket.

I suspect this skirt is dated but I still like it.

Styling suggestions for jacket welcomed - too long to wear with skirts?

I wore it today with loose trousers.

I like both items a lot! I don't think the skirt is dated. The sleeves on the jacket look a bit long on you--can they be turned back to reveal the lining? Good scores!

I adore the silhoutte and the collar of your new jacket, Anne. We were on the same wavelength, I see, I think it will also look great with wide-legged, bootcut and flared pants.
What fabric is the skirt? You always look great in A-line skirts, and this one is lovely with your tall boots.

Very nice find, that jacket! And the skirt looks versatile too. The jacket may be a bit long for *this* skirt, Anne, though I suspect the photo angle is also muddying the waters. Try and take a longer shot?

Re wearing with trousers - is a bit unfortunate I only wear have one pair of trousers! Maybe I'll have to venture into denim with denim, new territory for me!

Julie - there were no truly winter dresses or pinnies in DD4's size in the 3 op shops we looked in, but we found a lovely, purple short sleeved shirt dress in a slightly bigger size that she can wear a top and tights/leggings under. I was surprised at how little kids stuff there was! Must go fast (I also found a great tunic for DD8! she can wear it over a top and leggings and have adequate coverage; plus she loves it and was very complimentary about my taste!)

Thanks Krish! I am wearing the skirt today with a fitted red turtleneck and my new tan boots - am going to a mother's day thing in DD4's class. Apparently they are going to shave our legs (but not really!) and give us a leg massage as well as a morning tea!

Shaving your legs but not - how? That is a great jacket Anne! The skirt looks great on you too. I remember floral appliqued skirts from a couple of years back, so in that sense it is dated, but it still looks good and would be freshened by the red turtleneck and tan boots.

It was so cute! They were our "beauty therapists" and they smothered our legs with shaving cream then wiped it off with pop sticks, then sat with a warm bath for our toes while they massaged our shoulders, followed by a hand massage and finished off with serving us morning tea!!!

But oh boy was I hot in my boots and turtleneck jumper. I had dressed in my cold house and we were out in the sun.

Aw, adorable Anne! Glad you had a special day. And yes, cold houses and sunny outdoors makes dressing a schizoid experience! I want to put on my turtleneck now. I might then need aircon in the car...

I love the jacket. The fit is lovely and I think this look is very current based on what I have seen in the stores.

The skirt to my mind is dated, but that doesn't mean it wont look good. I think its often in the styling. The A line suits you and and I think you will make this work beautifully.

One day we will go thrifting together!!

Glad that the jacket seem current. I thought so, but wasn't sure

And yes, I knew the skirt was dated, but for $1 I didn't mind, because, as you said, it suits me. I can always wear it around the house (besides trends don't move that fast down here, and lots of women are still wearing this sort of skirt!)
