Parts of Texas are about to get hammered by life threatening parts of rain. 20" or more in Houston, 30-40” south of there. Some of the predictions have said some areas could see up to 48" (that's four feet) of rain over a 3 or 4 day period. This could be epically horrible for those in the path of Harvey.
I'm far enough North that we're going to be fine, but if we have any fabbers in South or Central Texas, I'm worried about you so please be careful and do check in to let us know
A) that you're ok
B) is there anything you need
ETA: UPDATE. My idiot boss (I'm using that term affectionately here, as this is one of the craziest thing I've seen him do but my God it's so amazing) has gone and bought a flat bottomed boat and hitched it up to his Hummer and packed his bags and his son up and headed towards Houston to help with rescues. Boss is ex-army, son is ex-marines so they're both well equipped to do such a thing. America's veterans, still freaking serving! Of course, it means that I'm stuck working every day until he gets back, but if that's how I can contribute something to the search & recovery efforts then that's what I'll do.
So the boss spent Monday working with FEMA, the national guard, and Harris county/Houston officials doing search & rescue. As they were getting ready to find somewhere safe to park & sleep in the truck for the night, the transmission on the Hummer. He didn't know what he was going to do. A man named Manuel stopped and asked him if he was doing rescues; when he heard about the car trouble, he towed them to a hotel. The next day, boss went back out in the boat, and then Manuel took my boss and his son to his house. Manuel fed and sheltered my boss & his son. Today, Manuel drove my boss to college station to rent a car (boss had spoken with someone and reserved one to get home). Of course there were NO RENTAL CARS AVAILABLE. Manuel drove my boss home to Dallas. I am humbled by Manuel's generosity of spirit, and grateful that he took care of my friend and his son. #Houstonstrong I'm going to go dry my eyes now.
My boss is giving me Friday off, which means I have 3 days to rest (and catch up on household chores) before I have to go back to work
