Hunter Wellies - Yay or Nay!

Good Morning Ladies,

Ok, so as it turns out, just like every winter, upon the first snowstorm I realize that I have a HUGE gap in my closet. That is, a low key, snow / rain boot.

I do have a pair of overly abnoxious Earth snowboots that I love, but I'm sure would not pass YLF muster. I need something I can quickly slip on and off, that I can use for both work and play!

So I thought once again about a pair of the classic Hunter wellies, in either navy blue, grey or black, with a furry lining or something like that.

What's the feeling here about hunter boots - Are these like the classic UGGS in these parts?

Those get nothing but love from me! I have a pair of Hunters for camping/fishing in summer - but are they warm enough for snow? I see bloggers wearing them all the time and wonder about temperature issues.

YAY! They are gorgeous. I am very petite so the adult ones don't work for me. I also have a very small shoe size. The kids' (Junior Hunter) worked perfectly for me. Try them out if 16" is too tall for you.

Love them and want them! I have a cheap Target pair, too, but they aren't the most comfortable or well-fitting, so they're purely functional.

AG - I am not sure, since it seems that every rainboot I ever had gets taken away from me. for instance, GP was so nice to send me those Missoni for Target wellies but, but, my sister took then:( I figured they could be OK with the wellie socks.

I bought the brown ones for myself for my birthday and the leopard print wellie socks. Had them on yesterday. Not very warm (even with the wellie liners) but not as cold as my cheap rain boots and of course they are nice and tall so snow can't get in and they are super cute and totally waterproof. I actually kind of like your earth boots - similar to the Sorels that seem to be all the rage lately. If it's real full out snow I'm pretty much only shoveling my front drive and walk so I don't much care what boots (I have my high school duck boots and a pair fo shearling lined (not UGG like at all) from my grandmother.

Yes. They are very stylish for rain and you can also get fleece liners for snowy days so they'll be warm enough.

Yay, but I'm skeptical about how warm they will be. I do not have Hunters as they don't fit my calves, but last winter I wore my Sperry rain boots all through the snowy season, and while they were OK, my feet were kind of cold.

My thing about snow boots is that I refuse to wear anything that is (a)puffy or (b)hairy, which eliminates a huge number of them. I also live in the city so I don't really need very hardcore snow boots. I just got these and am loving them so far. The laces keep them streamlined and the lining is shearling, so not hairy.

Well, since I have those exact boots, I have to vote Yay!

BUT - they are not warm. I would not rely on them if the temp drops below 39F. They are also just rubber - no cushioning in the sole. I think they definitely require welly socks. Also I regret a teensy weensy bit that I got the glossy version. I wanted grey and it only comes in glossy, but I feel conspicuous roaming the bush in them.

For cold and snow, I would go with the Sorels. OK, well, I have Target knock-offs since I didn't think I could justify the price in terms of CPW. Although with our weird weather, I'm thinking they may be justifiable after all.

Yay! I'm a Hunters fan I have some navy blue sparkle ones with pale blue Hunter welly socks. However I don't find them warm enough for (UK) snow. I'm in my docs when it's cold and snowy, my feet are lovely and snugly and warm x

I had some trouble with the fit on Hunter, so went with Le Chameau. I love, love, love mine! As with Hunter, you would need a fleece liner for colder climates. The great thing about Le Chameau is that they are made from natural rubber. I find this makes a huge difference with better regulating temperature (my feet never get too hot or too cold). And they are not shinny. I see from my zappos' link that they are now on a great sale.

Thank you guys for all of your thoughts.
Several points hit home. I really wonder about how " warm" these are for winter use. Maybe not the best choice. I decided to order the navy blue ones along with some fluffy wellie socks, to see if I like them as much on me as I do on others.
I'll let you know how it goes!

Nothin' wrong with a pair of classic Hunter boots. I love mine, despite the fact that really they should be an inch shorter in the shaft to look truly fab.

Keep in mind that they are useless in the cold. You'll need serious woolly socks or those special Hunter boot liners if you want to wear them in below-freezing-point weather.

Glad I'm not the only one questioning the warmth factor, though I do see East Coast bloggers wearing these in the snow!
