Now I am looking for a cheat-sheet for the common abbreviations used o the site. For instance I keep seeing FFBO and RATE. TIA! (thanks in advance )

Cindy, this question comes up about once a month, it feels like, so you're not alone. If you search for the word "acronym," you will see all the threads on this topic, from abbreviation translation to discussions on whether they are too exclusionary, etc.

Thanks, ladies! I was on the right track with FFBO (what I would call a "go to" outfit) but didn't have a clue on RATE.
DJ- I wanted to use the word acronym in my post instead of abbreviation but spell-check kept telling me it was wrong! LOL

I kept thinking MOTG was 'mother of the groom'. Thanks, Inge, for putting the link here! Now I know what ETA means. Finally!

Now could someone please explain the following:

1. What is a poison eye? Is that good, as in, "I can't even be objective because I love these so much" ?

2. What is a hot mess? (Nobody, anywhere, ever has the same answer). Like... just a big old mess, but somehow still looks great... or is it just a hot mess, like, "my dog threw up on the carpet" hot mess?

Poison eye means you have a bias against something and can't view it objectively. Sugar eye is the opposite

Ha-ha, LBD, you cracked me up. Here are my interpretations:

1. Poison eye has a negative connotation, sugar eye is its opposite. So I, for example, have a poison eye for dropped crotches (hate 'em), and a sugar eye for asymmetry.

2. Hot mess is definitely more of a steamy pile of dog vomit mess, rather than an attractive mess, in my mind.
