Thanks for the reminder, Mo. V good point about that. Mamapicklejuice's point about threads being easier to scan for the time-poor is very well taken too.
Re the a la Indienne, I'm sorry to have made a hash of it. Did mean to explain, bit of an aside joke on Indian menu planners' tendency to make foods understandable to the West but also sound posh my saying a dish is really 'potatoes a la Indienne' or what have you. Then was in a rush to ... uh... rush to work, so forgot about the explanation and neglected to change heading to English.
Agree with difficulty of acronyms, but also agree with some need for shorthands in order to not constantly refer back to particular blog posts (fast fallback outfit) or threads (urban warrior princess), especially if we're to have a conversation among so many within our time constraints. Completely behind the glossary idea, always have been. But also: I think we're all friendly people more than happy to explain an acronym when a newbie asks... so I'm hoping not as much of an issue either.
Question though, what happens to handles that are longer? Like my own long name or Christieanne's, or monikers like Alaskagirl or Goldenpig or Ironkurtin, where it can be hard to know where to curtail the name (Clearly Claire or HeleninCanada or Transcona Shannon is easier). I for one often find it hard to type out a long handle repeatedly in a longer comment, or if posting in a rush like from a short break at work --- I'd rather not have a *handle* of all things reduce my participation when I'm short on time. But Mamapicklejuice, would you feel uncomfortable acronymized to MPJ? I know I'm quite comfy with M (or MM) instead of Manidipa. But people often choose their monikers early on, without having considered this impact because they've yet to have started threads which require replies! So... also a thread for preferred monikers of the short and sweet persuasion -- a la Mo or Una? or preferred abbreviation -- a la M, MM, or Moni, or hey, Angie
