How would you wear a denim blazer?

So, I have this single-button mid blue denim blazer that my Mom gave me this summer. The fit is ok and I like it, but I don't really know what to wear it with. Most days I wear blue jeans, and I have a poisoned eye against the denim-on-denim look. I see stoned 80s "rockers" in my mind's eye when I try it, and I think of the guy wearing a denim tuxedo at my junior prom...

What would you wear such an item with?

I have one and rarely wear it. I think the only pic I have is it over brown shorts and an ethnic print tank. I would also wear it over my white jeans, like in place of the cardi in pic #2 maybe.

I had ideas of putting it over skirts and dresses but never seem to reach for it when I'm in them. Hmm.

Also with dress slacks. I work in high-tech marketing. The industry used to be(*) very casual -- everyone wore jeans. I never liked jeans, and I already had a closet full of dress slacks/suits/business casual wear. So I got a sharp dressy denim jacket -- more like a blazer -- and wore that to dress down my dress slacks. It's a smart casual formula as sure as topping jeans with a suit jacket.

(*) Somewhere along the line my company became less casual. You will still see dark wash dressy denim, especially on Fridays, but people are more apt to dress business casual these days, even if there's no dress code saying they must.

I have a denim blazer I bought for $10 resale and haven't worn it either. It fits nice but seems wrong with most outfits. It might just be a bit too boho for me. I much prefer the look of my denim jacket. I should put it in the swap area with my green jcrew blazer.

Edit: I just realized my earlier comment may have seemed less than positive and I didn't mean it to be. I bought that denim blazer because I truly think it has classic style and it spoke to me. But I also wear blue jeans a lot and worry about the 'denim suit" effect. Many outfits I have seen with denim blazers show lovely ladies in flowing florals with the denim jacket as a topper. And it works perfect on them. But that's not what's in my closet I guess.

Maybe for me it would be with a crisp white shirt and black slim pants...Now I've got to try it.

Is it a cropped blazer or longer?
I would wear it with slacks, dress pants, dresses, pencil skirts,pretty much anything that wasn't jeans but it would depend on how it fits.

I would also say non denim trousers and a tan belt worn over the jacket.

I would at least try it with every outfit where I might wear a denim jacket in the same wash and make note of where the proportions work and where they don't. This would include colored denim on the bottom.
