How would you style this sparkly tweed skirt?

This skirt just arrived. I've never worn anything like this before, but thought it would be fun to consider for holiday events. I'm looking for fairly casual styling, nothing too far into glam-land. It's a really pretty tweed in warm colors with a lot of sparkle that does not show up at all in the find photo. I've thought of two possibilities and will do some try-ons...

1) with a denim shirt, black booties/tights, and long pearls or a necklace I have similar to the find but a little less sparkly. Could also do ankle strap pumps

2) with a bronzy shimmery cocoon sweater I have and a white top...but I think this silhouette might emphasize my short waist in a not flattering way

Would love to hear any other suggestions.

Love the skirt and the idea.

I love a sparkly skirt for the holidays. Mine is a longer (midcalf) trumpet skirt in a bias plaid with browns and greys and metallic threads. Here are some of the ways I have worn it:

With a black turtleneck and metallic shoes (pewter ghillies)

With a black blouse or cashmere sweater, black heels or booties, and a scarf that combines some of the skirt colours in a simple geometric.

With a shimmery gold sweater vest over a black or white shirt, and black footwear.

I don't do much denim. If I wanted to look more casual I would use a chunky fisherman sweater or a leather jacket.

I love both these ideas and what a pretty skirt! I also might try it with a black cashmere sweater that I have with a portrait neckline. It might be fun to try it with a bright top as well -- I don't know if it would work but it might be an interesting experiment to see. You could try some pattern mixes also. White or cream would also be lovely and feminine.

For more casual a black crew neck cashmere sweater, black ankle booties, simple silver jewelry, or simple black pumps, heels or flats. More dressy a silky white shirt, or any black or white silky top, probably stick with plainer footwear as the skirt has so much sparkle I would not wear shinny footwear like silver. A faux fir topper would be nice for a dressier event.

I'm agreeing with the black top ideas. It lets the skirt be a star. A black too would also be a perfect backdrop for a sparkly necklace. I like that skirt!

I agree with the answers given and your ideas, Chris. (Except for the cocoon sweater. I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that the sweater needs to be on the shorter side and somewhat fitted since the skirt is A-line. Sometimes tricky to find sweaters for skirts.

Do you wear belts? A patent belt and fab earrings could be a great way to style it as well (sudden burst of inspiration!)

What you can hear from everyone's good advice is the suggestion to let your gorgeous skirt be the center of attention. I had exactly the same thought as so many others for a top: Black cashmere. It can be slim and fitted, if you have a neat waistline, or drop-shouldered and oversized, if you'd prefer to blur the waist. The neckline can also be whatever suits you best: crewneck, vee, turtleneck or cowl. Footwear, too, could range from over-the-knee boots to little ankle-strap flats. Pick up the bronze & silver in your jewelry, and top with a black leather jacket, as bj1111 suggests, and you can go anywhere. The beauty of a glitzed-up classic like this is its extreme versatility, as long as the rest of the outfit lets it shine, and doesn't compete. A great find!

What a beautiful skirt! There are probably lots of ways you will find to style it. I like the ideas you already mentioned. The skirt is lovely. You could wear it with a leather Moto jacket and knee high boots for a somewhat casual look, especially if worn with a graphic Holiday tee, maybe in neutral colors.

I would do a,cream colored fited sweater. Light knee high boots or a bootie. Bling on the necklace or earings or go for both. I would also do a moto jacket in camel or tan.

I like to pair my statement skirts with a fine-gauge black turtleneck blouse or sweater - something with a slim cut. Black tights or sheer hosiery, with black heels or boots (flat or heeled). Pearls or a sparkly necklace to finish, depending on my mood.

So basically, following Angie's Statement Skirt + Black Supporting Act, as linked above

For a topper, it depends on the event and the venue. If it's going to be cooler inside, or more casual, I would keep on a leather moto, or fabric-style bomber jacket. If the event is dressier, and I know they're going to keep the heat on, I would wear a dressier wool coat and check it.

I would also pair this skirt with a light-colored blouse and/or sweater, nude hosiery and nude pumps.
