How would you style this shoe? ETA pics

After a weak Internet moment and a "mousing accident" while I was on the Naturalizer website a few weeks ago, this shoe arrived on my door step:

I love Naturalizer shoes (and I own several pairs of their flats) but I'm really struggling to style this pair.

The thread on Oxfords (as alternatives to ballet flats) got me thinking and I was wondering if some of the same style rules might apply to this shoe as well. Or are they better as a Converse style alternative?

When I'm not working, I think my style tends towards sporty casual. Do you have thoughts and suggestions for how I might style this shoe? I would LOVE to know what you think.

They really look more like Con alternatives to me. A bit too sporty/gearish for an Oxford or ballet flat substitute -- I think the white sole is what pushes it into gear territory for me.. Shorts and jeans seem the most likely pairings for these, which should work with your sporty style.

I'd say they are more of a Converse alternative - worn with jeans, clams, shorts or maybe a jeans skirt. If they are as comfy as they look then keep for sure. Love your explanation - mouse accident- that sounds like a great reason for getting new shoes!

Janet - thanks! I hear you about the white sole (and that explains my challenges with styling it). It would look outlandish with a denim pencil skirt, wouldn't it? Stumped!

Converse alternative. If they were mine, I'd wear them with a pair of jeans -- either full length bootcut, or skinny jeans rolled up a bit to show the ankles -- or else with a casual denim mini skirt and no socks. No matter how you slice it, those are fashion sneakers. Cute, though!

I think these would look great with a denim pencil skirt. Add a boxy colorful top (I would choose knit), maybe a moto or military jacket, a fringe scarf, tights if you wish. Perfecft!

Thanks for the input, ladies! I took your suggestions to heart and tried on a few outfit combos - would love to know what you think! Do any of these work? They all feel a little more casual than I' usually dress...the shoes do dress things down quite a bit!

CJH - I really like the idea of accessorizing, but don't quite know how to do it (as you can tell from these pictures!)

RC, I like your styling! I suggest rolling up the sleeves on the denim and white shirts to add to the casual vibe

Fab! These look so cute and I esp. Like #4. The pink top is also very nice! Can you try a half tuck arrangement with the denim shirt? It is a little looser shirt and might look good semi tucked into the denim skirt. Keep up the good work.

CJH - I love the white shirt, and I have had it for ever; denim and white might be a cliched combination, but it is one of my favorites.

Kirti - rolling up the sleeves is a good idea. Or perhaps even scrunching them, a la Angie?

Deb, you're sweet. Skinny jeans are a new thing for me, but I am really loving this pair!

Denim and white are classic!

Those stylings all look good. Those shoes pair really well with that denim shirt.

PS I've been meaning to say welcome, especially as a fellow runner. Although I've only been running for about 18 months. Started at the age of 45 thanks to Team in Training, and I had never run in my life unless I was in the airport trying to catch a connecting flight! I'll never be fast, but I've completed two half marathons!

My favorites are 2, 4 and 5. (scrunch the sleeves please and I would wear these jeans all the way down (no roll) with these shoes.

Janet - hello fellow runner! I have not been running that long myself - since 2010, which is the year I turned 40. I've only done one marathon - the first half of the SF marathon. It was fun to run across the GG bridge (in all its foggy glory), but doing it with 19,000 people did not float my boat. I'm on the lookout for a smaller race, perhaps something on trails, but in no hurry.

Jjsloane - I agree. Scrunching the sleeves is required :).

Wow, I bet that was quite an experience! I ran the Rock'n'roll Half in DC this spring (so did Citygirldc), and it was also very big, but I enjoyed it. However, I really love the smaller events even more -- Zooma Half in Annapolis, and some small 10ks and a really nice little half metric on the eastern shore of Maryland that is mostly on trails. I can't believe I'm so into this now!
