How would you describe this style?

I just saw this picture on The Sartorialist and fell in love with the feel of her outfit. But I can't really grab what fascinates me exactly. I don't like the color or the cut especially, it's just something about the impression it creates.That's a feeling I would like to recreate with my style. Although I'm also a little bit intimidated by it. I really can't see me succeed in looking as polished as her. How would you describe her style?

I remember studying that pic when he first posted it! I think it's the juxtaposition of the ladylike, simple but impeccable/luxe shapes, the rich colors, and her edgy hair that makes this look so interesting. Someone with more mainstream hair who was wearing a more moderately-priced calf-length pleated gray skirt might convey frumpiness, for example.

In answer to your question, I think this is sort of ladylike minimalism, or maybe even some variant on modern classic.

Modern Classic with a strong Retro vibe. That's a fabulous 70's billowing blouse!

I have to admit that what makes this outfit hip is the gal's eyewear and hairstyle. They are key to the look.

Modern classic with some relaxed, ladylike minimalism. Sounds great - it always does written down, the implementation is another thing. I can't really connect Lady Di to it, but she was before my time, anyway.

Jonesy, you got exactly what I was thinking about! But you're right, it's probably a look that changes easily into frumpiness.

Angie, you're right about the Retro vibe, although I wouldn't have thought of this term. The 70's billowing blouses are great, but I always look strange in them. And the hair is really interesting, but with my hairstructure I can only dream of an edgy haircut like this.

The image just reminded me of these looks, I think it is mostly the calf length pleated skirt. There is something quite Sloaney (Sloane Ranger) about the look.

Joy I could see this hairstyle working with grey hair.
