How to wear this colourful midi skirt?

Hi, Everyone.

A new skirt has been hanging in my closet since the end of the summer, because I don't know how to wear it. I would really appreciate your ideas, suggestions and advice.

It would be great, if I could wear it during this winter season as well as later, in warmer months. What shoes, thights, tops, blazers or accessories would go well with it? How would you create a good winter and a nice summer look?

Perhaps I should also mention that I have quite thin upper body (small breasts and thin waist), am not tall and have light colouring (light skin, blue eyes, light brown hair).

Your advice is most welcome.

Jewel toned sweaters in the same colors as the flowers in that skirt would make for a refreshing outfit in winter. I'm all into drab grey to match the sky and whatever keeps me warm right now. This skirt is beautiful!

It reads too summery for winter wear to me. In summer, I'd pair it with a white or denim top and nude sandals.

Hmmm.... interesting challenge for winter wear. OK, I'm up for it!

For some reason I can only see it paired with knee-high boots (maybe because I'm cold right now?), possibly a deep inky blue. Then a trim winter white turtleneck tucked in at the waist. A handbag matching one of those bright colors from the skirt, but not yellow (too much!).

Or a casual look - a chambray button down shirt or chambray blouse with interesting sleeve details, tucked in. A wide leather belt in one of those beautiful colors from the skirt fabric, and some ivory knee -high boots.

as it has a full skirt/volume on the bottom, I'd pair it with a cropped and trim top. A cropped mock turtleneck might do the job, especially one with ribbing.. You could then pop on a longer blazer or sweater to keep warm

Thank you for your answers, you gave me some really good ideas. I'm searching the internet for some good pieces, before I hit the stores.
Right now it looks like the shoes are going to be the biggest challenge.

Bennett: knee high boots were exactly what I've been thinking too, but I had real trouble with finding the right colour. Deep blue or ivory would really be a good match. Thanks!

I'd go a different way for winter. I would use the skirt as the one bright note, and otherwise go monochrome with fitted turtleneck sweater and opaque tights in black or one of the darker colours from the skirt --are they teal and burgundy?

L'Abeille, thank you for your answer and a very interesting suggestion.
The darkest colour on my skirt is deep blue but there's no burgundy, although I notice it on the picture.
Since the pattern of the fabric isn't symetrical, there are slight differences in how the pattern is actually spread on each skirt, even though they're sold as the same product.

You mention opaque thights. What type and colour of shoes would you add to them?

I really like the fitted sweater idea.

You've had lots of lovely creative ideas Tisa.

I am quite similar to your body type and wearing a colourful skirt with a fitted (often black, but doesn't have to be) sweater and black opaques or knee high boots is an easy winter option for me.

I can't find it, but I thought that Angie had a foolproof way to wear difficult skirts...with a column of neutral. For this skirt I would use a dull black or charcoal grey turtleneck, tucked; or fitted waist-length sweater with a similar color tights and boots/booties for winter. If your winter is frigid,you might look for a warm cardigan in a similar neutral or one of the colors in the skirt. Or you could look for a scarf that picks up some color/colors in the skirt, even a plaid for pattern mixing.
For warmer weather, a tee with gathers at the neck in a color in the skirt and nude sandals or ballet flats. You could add a colorful necklace with beads picking up colors in the skirt.

A nice sweater or turtleneck would be warm and comfortable, just right for winter.
I also love the idea of adding some more colour near my face with a scarf or a vibrant necklace.

It's time to visit the stores and put all your suggestions into practice. Wish me luck. I'll post post photos, if I find anything interesting.

I would pick a fitted top in a slightly different color than is what you find in the skirt but that coordinates with one of the colors that appears the least frequently, like a light periwinkle, one of the emerald greens, or possibly a lighter fuschia than is shown, and then I would pair it with nude hose and some awesome pumps, or maybe if possible a pair of black lace up oxfords and tights and I would pull the laces and put in yellow or fuschia ribbons instead. (Maybe coordinate with the top you get, but it doesn't have to).

I would definitely wear some blingy crystal earrings with this too. Something about the happy colors and pattern in the skirt make me want to add some crystal to the outfit unless you find a top or shoes with some bling. I think that would be it.

Amiable, the article was very helpful, thank you.
I'm not sure black is the right colour for me, though. Yesterday I tried on a very form-fitting black top and I almost disappeared in it, since it made me look even smaller than I already am and the colour washes me out a bit. Perhaps I should choose a top with wider sleeves and a more open neckline instead of a turtleneck.

On the other hand blue looked much better on me and I fell in love with a dark blue utility shirt, made of a very flowy fabric.
Dark blue shoes are proving to be a challenge, but I haven't given up yet.
I'm still looking and I'll post pictures when I find some more good items.

I'll try to use your advice about tops for summer look. I don't own any oxford shoes and since I'm not tall, I'll probably pick heels instead.
