How to wear short Docs (or Dr.Martens joins the purple league of evil)

I have just spotted these and am completely in love:

They are also much more affordable the Frye Carson, but of course not nearly as sleek.
I was wondering if there is any way to wear these other then with bootcut jeans? The versatility plays a huge factor for me, although, on the other hand, I do wear jeans most of the time.

Hmm, I would wear them with dark hose, but I know you are a lot more conscious of cutting your leg line than I am. The hose would bring down the contrast though. Maybe leggings too?

Yes, that was what I was wondering about too Maya. My legs are short, and my caves pretty skinny, while the boots are clunky, so I would probably end up looking like a duck with leggings/tights... It seems that bootcuts are the only way to go.

Hmm, well there are other ways to wear it IMO, but I don't feel like you would be comfortable. I would wear a voluminous, short dress with dark hose as I mentioned, to balance out the chunky/short boots. But I know shorter hemlines aren't your thing. So I think bootcuts would be the only way to go.

This style of Doc is a little tricky - hard to pull on and take off because there is no zip. The leather on this style of Doc is also harder than on the the black and metallic. So it will take a while to break in.

But! If anyone can pull them off with dress and skirt wearing sass - its you Tanya. You have my 90's blessing.

Ah, these remind me of high school! In a good way, that is. One of my best friends had these. I had the 8-hole version in burgundy. I wish I hadn't given those away...I had them sitting in the closet for years and years and only got rid of them a couple of years ago.

I would wear them like Maya, with leggings and dark tights and a shorter hemline. Or with jeans.

Aaah, one of these days purple will be our downfall, Tanya;-))

I agree with the others, you could pull off the look with skirts and dresses!

I'm wondering if something like this could work too. I know the Dr. Martens are a bit more "clunky" than the boots the model is wearing. I saw this image a while back and really like the way the trousers are loosely tucked into the boots.
(do you think these are just slim fitted trousers?)

I have 8 hole docs in maroon Tanya. I mainly wear them with jeans, but also with black leggings and tunic and tights and dresses. It does feel very 90s to me, but I have had them since the 90s so that could be why Tanya I don't see the short-legged thing on you either

Do you think you could wear them with tunics and jeggings, Tanya? I was looking at these boots at the store when I was returning these and I thought they could serve the same purpose. I went through all possible outfits in my head for the SM boots but they had to go back.

Angie already pointed it out, but I do indeed have these boots. I got them in the 90s and have been wearing them again recently. Wearing them with leggings (regular or denim) as been fun. I also wore them with skinny jeans but I think that looked bad.

So, um, I don't agree at all that your legs are short. I think you can wear these without worry!

Tanya I think you can pull these off, but they are not as classy as the looks I usually see you post. I could see these with the cargos you tried in DC though. I do have a slight preference for the SM Harllem boot Marianne linked too. Similar style but not as heavy looking.
