How to wear a summer tunic?

I don't usually wear untucked tops that go tunic length on me, in the summer. It's not an aversion - just inexperience. Can you please offer styling ideas for me on this top? It is a great weight and it fits like a dream. (It also is on sale, if any of you are inclined.) I probably will have it dyed to a marine blue or a warm grey color. It's a bit sweet for my complexion in its current aqua state.

It's too short to be worn with leggings, right?
Any skinny pants/jeans would be great. Skinny bermuda shorts too.

For me, tunic is covering the bottom. I ere on the side of extra long often using dresses as tunics. To me this is a longer top but not a tunic. Like Daria says, I'd wear it with any slim bottom except leggings. Nice top!

In summer I wear tunic length tops over flared or boot cut jeans and chunky sandals. It's a volume over volume look but I think it works, especially in the heat. I would also wear that type of top over denim shorts.

PS I should have mentioned that my jeans are fitted in the thigh area but flare out below the knee. Dont want too much volume in the thigh area!

Yes to all the pants you just posted. This combo is basically all I wear during the Summer. You can see multiple real-life examples in my June challenge posts. It can at least highlight which proportions don't please you;-)

I have a similar sleeveless tunic that I like with slim bottoms. My favorites are a black pencil skirt and a pair of cropped black silk jogging pants.
I find that the weight of the extra fabric in front can cause the neckline to gape and expose more than I'd like if I lean over. I wear a cami under the top.

All fitted cropped pants, skinnier (both denims and non-denim) and fitted pencil skirts. If you are tall with longer legs, you can wear them with flared/boot cut jeans too.

As a fan of long tops, I'm curious about the difference between a long top and a tunic. That is, why are people saying here that this top is long enough to wear with any sort of bottoms, except for leggings?

I definitely think skinny jeans would look great, but I'm also a fan of bootcuts with this type of top and a pair of wedge sandals. It just looks long and lean(at 5'4" I like any outfit that gives that illusion!)

Robin, for me I prefer a longer length tunic with leggings just for a bit more coverage. I think the structure of skinny jeans allows them to be worn with a bit shorter top, although I still most often prefer longer length tunics with any type of slim bottom. I don't know the technical difference, but for me a tunic is longer and provides more coverage with leggings.

Yes - any type of skinny bottom - except for leggings - would look good with this length of top.

Robin, to me a tunic is a top that completely covers the bum and crotch area - more like a short dress, than a top. This top that annabelle is showing is much shorter than that - although it does go below the waist - but definitely does not cover the butt!

I am with most of the others....cigarette style pants, flares, straight or slim jeans, even shorts. Or a slim fit skirt. I think to get the lovely drape the bottom needs to be slim.

I actually really like the colour, it could work with greys, denim or maybe navy to make it less sweet? Or is the colour itself that you find unflattering.

Kiwigal - the color itself is beautiful, and it is true to the Massimo Dutti photo. It even looks good with my complexion...technically. But it's just a little - to use a YLF favorite - twee on me.:) (If I keep it, I'll probably wear the top in its color until my dying gal can fit me on her schedule.)

Robin - great question about the difference between styling a tunic vs long top. As you could tell from my original post... I know nothing! haha I appreciate the ladies' rationale here that for something that doesn't cover the bootie - no leggings!

Robin this top isn't long enough to reach past the crotch, and it only comes partially down the bum, in the back. A tunic would be longer -- sometimes even as long as mid-thigh front and back.

A top as short as the one here should be worn with actual pants, not with leggings. Leggings are usually made of thinnish knits, and are revealing in a way actual pants are not.

Annabelle, understand. I have a couple of colours that technically suit me but that I struggle with. Pale pink was definitely one of them but I have come to like it in small doses.
