How to wear a bright leather blazer?

For some time ago I purchased a red (almost orange) leather blazer. I love the look of it, but I hardly ever wear it. Somehow, I do not get the styling right. Any advice on how to style a leather blazer in a bright colour?

Do you have a base of neutrals, like black or denim? I would let the leather blazer be the show stopper and keep everything else low key.

I wear a lot of black, but also beige, chocolate brown and white. Do not wear jeans, prefare trousers or skirts. The red/orange is unfortunately a colour which does not love me back and the combination with black seems rather harsh. The blazer, though, is lovely - very luxurious and I got it for a true bargain price.

Well, it could be a problem if the jacket is not a good color for you in the first place, because it’s goung to be near your face.
You can “ compensate” by wearing s top in a “ best color” that’s acceptable with the jacket. Another good strategy is to find a scarf you LOVE that has just a bit of jacket color plus your other good colors, and generally wear that.

Your jacket sounds beautiful. Wear it with a denim skirt. Maybe a striped tee. You could also wear it with brown or white bottoms. Maybe this jacket will take you in a new direction.
If you wear it with black, use Angie's trick and make the outfit less harsh with a good sized amount of white and maybe adding a third color, like a blue or aqua bag and scarf.

Your jacket sounds gorgeous! I would wear it over a base of neutrals! No matter the shade! Maybe some black trousers and a simple t, a pink t might be a nice mix~

I would wear such a jacket over a column of neutral colour.....navy or black. I just got a burgundy velvet jacket and that is exactly how I intend to wear it.

Hi Marilyn! I just love velvet blazers! Maybe they remind me of the Louis IX, XII reign and how they wore much velvet, I think they are splendid. Your burgundy velvet blazer sounds lucious. Where did you buy it? I had one years ago, (too small now after kiddos) and would actually love to find one now. Please show a pic~

Boldly. You should wear it boldly. Unless you don’t wear it at all because the color doesn’t suit you.

How about a tonal outfit of beige and chocolate brown or similar? Then you’ll look lovely with or without the jacket. If it seriously isn’t a good color for you, wear a scarf of some sort around your neck, so that’s between your face & the jacket.

is it the color, the length or the leather that is throwing you off?

if its the color, then you may never come to truly love it... try to over a column of colors as others have suggested...especially white or cream

if its the length (which is what usually trips me up) try experimenting with different bottoms.

if its the leather, try softening it up with less structured fabrics

Over a column of color with a patterned scarf to tie it all together, or over a dress that has multiple colors, including the jacket color.

I personally like to wear my bright/rich jackets with similarly bright/rich colors: either tonally (with other reds, oranges, pinks, burgundy, rust, etc.), with mostly white, or with white+something dark for high contrast. For a column-of-color with a red/red-orange jacket I would opt for white, gray, tan, or navy; or go with a graphic black+white.

EDIT: If the color itself isn't one that loves you that's a bit trickier. The easiest option there would be to add a scarf with colors that are flattering but that definitely limits the jacket's wearability.

It is actually mostly the colour I have a problem with. I have a black leather blazer as well and it is one of my favourites, so the leather and the structure is not the problem. I have now pulled out a number of scarves from my closet and tried with many different colours, including some red-burgundy-pink combinations. It looks quite nice with dark brown pants, but also with a dark warm grey blouse and pants in a similar shade - for me an unexpected combo. I will work on it further and see what feels the best. And then start wearing it to get used to the new colours ...
