How to style a jacket like this?

So, thanks to Angie's pin, I found and bought a jacket similar to this one at the consignment store, with credit (an exception to my 12x12 rule). It's a dark grey Velvet Theory blazer, not quite as roomy as the model but a similar shape and length.

How would you suggest styling it? Longer layer underneath? What kind of bottoms?

I find the jacket very reminiscent of the swing coats that have been hot on and off for decades. I would put it over a slim pencil skirt but am not sure that is your vibe.

It is a great jacket.

Since your style profile is androgynous chic, try it with the slouchy pants, or bf jeans, a longer top that hits mid thigh and maybe some killer heels? I'm trying to imagine all the ways you could wear it. Play around with it :).

i love the schoolboy look and would use it as a schoolboy blazer. i also love the seaming in the back and reminds me of the swingcoat.

i would do narrow bottom, which is less fashion forward. but try it with the leather track pants and really push the volume on volume.

Is it still roomy on you? If it is, I find that I have to wear that sort of item with a closer, longer layer underneath to help contain the volume. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to as well, because you are petite.

It sort of reminds me of my Una Jacket. I wear mine with a fitted, longer top underneath, a slim pair of trousers and chunkier boots. The volume of the jacket and the chunkier boots bookend each other. And for you, I'd imagine the pairing of velvet and heavy boots would be perfectly fab. It would keep the jacket from being too girly.

Another styling suggestion that I've seen on models with this type of boxy jacket is cuffing the sleeves a bit, leave it open and wearing with a man's shirt and then slim waxed jeans or leather leggings and chunky shoes.

Oooh! How does it fit through your shoulders? My first reaction was wide leg trouser and the slouchy leather pants all the way. If the shoulder is more fitted and it's just boxy through the middle, you could probably do skinnies and heeled boots, too. I always find it easy peasy with cropped jackets to go for a column of color underneath, but it doesn't always have to be so.

how wide is it on you? If broad shouldered, my first instinct is to have volume on the bottom too, but I am not sure. no piccies?

Shoulders are fitted, body is more boxy but not quite as much as the inspiration. I will post pictures when I can take them. I love the suggestions, especially Kalli's idea - sort of the schoolboy look, maybe even with a tie?

Absolutely, makes me think of mod boys in England. Sometimes they top it with a cool wool hat, but always bring the attitude!
