how to soften up shoes?

I just bought a pair of beautiful new boots - and very much on sale. Unfortunately, they're about half a size too big, and the toes are very, very, very hard, the combination of which is banging up my poor toes. Any advice on how to soften up the toes of boots? They're Miz Mooz, which seem to tend to be overly hard in general, if it matters. (I like that they keep their shape, but oh my toes!)

Maybe you could use a shoe stretching spray?

There are all kinds of shoe-fixers around that might help. I would start with a cheap foam insole to take up some of the extra space, and possibly a heel liner as well. If there are still spots that bump your foot, I just ordered some Dr. Scholl's Party Feet Invisible Gel Sore Spots. (They seem to be only available in the UK, but I found an online retailer who would send them to me with reasonable shipping.)

I think they just need to soften up overall, and I have no clue how to do it. Leave 'em out in the sun? That sometimes works!

I totally agree with an insole !!!

Also, there are leather conditioners out there that that soften up leather. Maybe not in one shot, but over time. I would also wear them around the house a little every day.

Nice looking boots! An insole might do it, but might also push your foot even more forward. I wonder if going to a shoe repair and asking for suggestions might help.

I'd definitely try an insole which will at least limit the movement of your feet in the shoes. How about a thicker, cushy athletic type sock? Nobody all see them:)

And I agree, Miz Mooz tend to be overly stiff. My MM boots are two years old and while the legs have softened, the shoe part of the boots are still rock hard. The leather isn't as finished as a Frye boot for example, and I doubt they'll soften much.

Insole + thick socks all the way!

If you can cough up the dough, get superfeet; they're HUGE and they're really great for your feet. If you can't, just get some cheap gel insole -- the bigger the better, of course :).

With all that layering, it's gonna feel like walking on pure bliss ... and have awesome boots to boot (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun). Actually, I'm jealous just THINKING about how comfy that set up is going to be!

Beautiful boots !!
Dubbin should do the trick to help soften them up and condition/waterproof too! I used to use it on baseball gloves/boots and even the leather top on my coffee table.
