How to make the best use of a small financial windfall

I have two questions for you:

1.) Imagine you are graced with a small financial windfall of "fun money"--no lottery ticket, but let's say a round, tidy sum, and no guilt. How would use it within the realm of fashion?

2.) If you know a bit about me, how would you recommend I use it?

I am dying to ask more, Scarlet, but, FWIW I would use it to buy either a watch, or a handbag, because those two things can be used to upgrade other outfits. And they're what I want :).

But for you......what would you think about some cognac boots with a tall skinny stack heel? Or a two piece suit?

That's easy for me - a Vince leather jacket! But we all have different priorities and some may need a lot of basics due to a recent size change, etc. I'm not sure where your 'holes' are so I can't help you there!

I found yet another wonderful teal bag today, at Picard in Gallery 106 on Frederichstraat, Scarlet! It was a patent clutch, just perfect for evening. And on sale :).

For me a hostess length kilt. Not the best look for my body type but I love them and once you have a jacket on who knows... It would be for kicking around the house and errands since I would have a jacket on then...

Ideally, for me, a Chanel large tote (black or pewter) and a Hermes scarf in teal and a tank watch. Scarlet, your post sounds like something fun is about to happen!!!

Freckles, a most interesting choice. I am a sucker for plaid, personally. You are also very wise in your choice for me--I have trouble with non-skinny PPL pants because of my job--sometimes there are nasty things on the floor, and I like the extra half inch of safety distance, even though I know it does not look as fab... It's a struggle.

Wow, Scarlet!! Well, you seem to have all of your basic style bases covered (i.e., you have a well-functioning wardrobe, can splurge occasionally, etc.) so I would think about using the little tidy windfall for something that you would not normally buy yourself. Something or a few things that are a bit unusual, or distinctive, or extremely luxe. Ideally your windfall could support a shopping trip somewhere fabulous, so you get a few keepsake items plus the memories of the trip (being the social scientist I am, I'm drawing on empirical lit about what gives us happiness over the long haul. For most of us, it's not objects or belongings so much as special, memorable experiences).

I resonate with what Jonesy said. My first impulse would be - travel to some place you dream about. But fashion wise...how about a trip to Paris or Milan and treat yourself to designer fashion spree there for whatever tickles your fancy?:0

Scarlet I know you've mentioned non skinny ppl pants before. Do you have them for other times in your life or are they a dream that just not fit with your lifestyle?

Black wool crepe pants are my dream pants that I just love and have owned many of. Unfortunately they no longer fit with my lifestyle even though they are my absolute favourites.

Scarlet, I did have another suggestion to throw in - an interesting, unique thing. Like a piece of antique or designer jewellry, especially if the windfall is a gift.

I think that is a very smart perspective and I hadn’t thought of including some travel (Paris, Milan?) When I tried to answer Angie’s later question, though, I did realize I get a lot of joy out of having the right shoes to put on in the morning J

I would absolutely love to travel to Seattle to shop with Angie, but that is very very far away L

I had to scratch my head for a couple moments, but when I asked myself what is the one item I would most hate to lose right now…it is my Diesel slouchy cowboy boots (pic 1)—the perfect vibe for me, 8 hour comfort, and three seasons. I even bought the perforated miss sixty’s (photo 2) just to keep me from wearing them out too fast.

the truth is I really do need some dark bootcuts that I can wear with a small heel. It’s just that I will never have the Angie version of PPL because of my work. Maybe you should rethink the black wool pants for your lifestyle? The require little laundering in my experience. I often admire Angie’s posts where she, for example, makes a suit into a pseudo-casual look.

Well Scarlet your ppl is just different from Angie's that is all.

So new shoes in Paris or MIlan? Sigh...

Unfortunately I launder my clothes each time I wear them so that's why no to the wool crepe.
