I love a popped collar but they never stay up nor are as firm as I would like. Are there any tricks to achieve this? (P.S. Ironing is not an option :))
I pop all my collars. It's a fabric thing. Some pop better than others due to stiffer fabric. JAileen's tip is effective - but you'll need to iron the collar.
I have a favorite blazer which is meant to have a popped collar option with metallic thread on the underside that is visible when it is popped up. The blazer is slightly softened up after a few cleanings. The collar it is no longer staying up. I'm scared to iron metallic thread. Has anyone had success with that?
I don't know if this will help you but, there's a trick used for the Turkish hijab style to keep the front edge rounded (rather than flopping down). You slip this curved 'streamliner/shaper/' in before folding the headscarf, to give it it's curved, stiff edge. It's essentially a plastic facing, but in the links below you'll see that you can also use hairspray (depending on the fabric of your top).
What Angie said. The collar of my BR and LE shirts stay nicely popped, but no matter how much starch I use on my AT shirt, the collar will not stay up!
3style, isn’t the metallic thread heavier than what’s on the other side? That would pull the collar down. If the glimmer doesn’t shine out from there often enough on its own (personally, i like elements that change a little when I move around), then you probably need something like Zaeobi’s tip, sort of the opposite of traditional collar stays.
