How to dress classy?

So at the end of the month I'm going to Scotch tasting. It is at a steakhouse. Dress code is "classy dress-up". Okie-dokie. Please tell me I can do something more interesting than a sheath dress (which I have just in case).
My same group had a bourbon tasting a few years ago at the same place, we were mostly standing around during the tasting, so flats or comfy heels.

Hmm. That sounds like the kind of dress code that's meant to ward off tackiness or overly casual drift. Seems like you could add a smart jacket to almost anything else and fit the bill.

Anna, you always dress classy! I think it is code for no jeans, and try to not to look like ...you know.

I'd wear something you want to wear. Maybe something from the opera capsule that you haven't had a chance to try yet this year.

Ah, I feel like if you put a blazer with anything it automatically makes it classier. So I'd say wear something fun or funky, and slap a blazer on top.

I have a black sateen long tuxedo jacket and a cropped black matte one. Also have my black leather trimmed Rag & Bone long tail jacket.

Like the others, I think you're a classy lady no matter what you wear! But I do imagine people standing around in cocktail dresses.

I'm just laughing at your "okie-dokie" and IK's answer! But seriously, I was thinking "classy dress-up" covers a lot of territory outside of destroyed jeans. What are you dying to wear? Or start with the shoes, since you want comfort there, and work up? The jackets you describe all sound awesome and definitely fit for the occasion. Or a version of "le smoking." But I wouldn't restrict myself to a jacket if I were you; if you had a dress or jumpsuit that you wanted to wear with a stole, for instance, I think that could fit the bill.

I would wear an LBD and smart flats with costume jewellery and a clutch, dress codes always seem to turn out more casual in interpretation than you expect, I think.

I read classy just as emphasis on the dress-up part, so I'd say they want cocktail attire rather than jeans.

I have to chuckle. These days, any time you don't wear jeans, you're pretty much guaranteed to look classy. I agree with everyone else about throwing on a jacket. A third piece always takes your outfit up a notch or 2.

your tails jacket sounds awesome! very "Ms Bond" and super appropriate for scotch tasting, enjoy some lagavulin for me! ....(In seattle, dress classy could mean no soft shells or fleece....)I think you always look classy, and and then cool and unique on top of that!
