Awesome! I'm glad you had time on your hands. What a great way to spend it--helping people. I've been wondering how people do this, and now I know! I will keep this in mind for a possible tool. I'm still thinking about ways to track and organize and think about my wardrobe.

Hey maybe that could be a selling tool for you...show clients those great walk in closets and tell them if they buy the house, you'll create a wardrobe board for them!

Wow, thank you so much for taking up this suggestion! You explained it so very well and your boards make it all look positively simple. I love the way you are able to display the items without backgrounds - it does help clarify the mind somehow.

Laughing at Susie's comment, but hey -- it's not a bad idea!!

I wonder if some of those phone apps that you can get do something similar? It seems they might. But I like how this way doesn't involve learning all kinds of new software!

Ingunn and some others use Evernote in a similar way. But I don't think they can erase the background like this.

Just added this to my Favorites! I'm in the metro Atlanta area with you, and school is closed tomorrow for the "extreme weather conditions" so maybe I'll use some of my extra time to make a board. This looks like a lot more fun than grading papers!

This is a fabulous tool and you made it clear enough that even a tech-impaired brain like mine wants to attempt this, at least for a travel or seasonal capsule . Thank you for taking the time to explain it.

Thank you so much for this. I want to try it with a travel capsule to start. This is probably a dumb question but... if I photograph all my clothes for an app I assume I could do this with the photos of my actual clothes rather than searching the internet for pics? If it would take me a few hours to search I may as well spend that time on setting up my app (which I've been planning to do for some time...).

Carolbee, you can certainly use pics of your own clothes. Powerpoint will not do a good job erasing the backgrounds though. If you find that your app does a good job erasing backgrounds and allows you to email the clean pics to yourself, I would love to hear about it. I would definitely prefer to use my own clothes, but it made for a messy picture.

For erasing backgrounds, I found clippingmagic.com yesterday through this blog post. It's very easy to use. Just make your changes online and download your edited picture. The results weren't quite clean enough for the graphic I wanted to use in a printing job, but they'd easily be good enough to do a wardrobe layout.

Thank you, Liz! Clippingmagic.com is awesome! It took 5-6 minutes to do the blouse below, but I imagine that will get much faster now that I sort of know what I'm doing. Great project for a snowy day! See the results below...not perfect, but pretty darned good! Note that the edited image will be massive (2-3 times the MBs of the original), so you may want to resize to save storage space.
