How often to do YOU get your hair cut?

I know this totally varies. I am just curious. I think I probably tend to go too long between cuts because the stylists always tend to cut off too much hair. I think if I went the recommended every 6 weeks I'd have very short hair. I'm constantly in a state of "growing out my hair" it seems. Lately I've been going 4 months or more.

Every 8 weeks. My hairdresser is very good about only cutting a minimal amount when I am growing it out. If you hairdresser is cutting too much, maybe it's time to find a new one?

I go 3 times a year... I try to go around the spring and fall equinoxes and the winter solstice just so I'll remember. I always seem to skip summer solstice because we're traveling and I don't feel like spending time or money that way. Now that I color I can see that 4 or 5 times a year might be nice, but it comes back to that same old time + money algorithm... L

Maybe twice a year. I'm a bit lazy about it, because I've got low-maintenance hair that looks pretty good most of the time, until suddenly it doesn't and I hate it, and then I go in for a cut! I usually don't feel like the hairdresser has cut too much off, because I nearly always get a different style to the one I had the previous time. I like my hairdresser and she's awesome about not cutting off more than I ask for. Maybe you need a better hairdresser!

I go every 7 weeks or so. My hair grows relatively fast and my bangs would make me nuts if I waited longer than that.

I go every 6 weeks, but need to make sure that I emphasize that I am growing it out, or that I want to keep it this length, otherwise I find they can get snip-happy!

Every 8 weeks religiously. I always make an appointment for 8 weeks away when I get a cut. At this length I would love to go every 6 weeks but can't quite justify the expense. I can go in for a free bangs trim and clean up of the back if I want, but usually just do that myself.
When I'm wearing my hair a tad longer, I can sometimes get by with 10 weeks, but that is the absolute longest I could ever go.

I get a free bang /nape trim between haircuts and I have a angled bob that just looks *bad* if it starts to grow out, so I get a actual cut every 8-9 weeks....trim about every 4 weeks or so. Its a indulgence, but it makes me feel a LOT better, so I think it's worth it! lol....dont know if DH agrees with that!

I think my cutting schedule is going to throw off the curve here. I go every 7 to 10 days, yes, DAYS.

I go maybe 2-3 times a year. I know I should go more often (I get my hair colored) but (a) I am trying to grow it out a little bit, and (b) I find getting my hair done (and most typical "pampering" procedures to be honest) to be both boring and expensive, so I always keep putting it off. Nothing against my hairdresser (I love her!) but I'm not the type who finds getting their hair done fun or relaxing. It takes soooo long for the color and I am always so bored sitting under the dryer and unable to move.

Me too, I have a hard time with hairdressers who want to cut too much but I found that the ones from cheaper salons tend to ignore my plea to keep it longer. Why? Maybe in high end salons they assume the customers have the money to sue them?

This said, a high end salon is absolutely NOT a guarantee.

One strategy is to visit your stylist for a blow-dry in between cuts, so the hairdresser has a better feel of your hair, your tastes, your hair goals.

In my personal experience, I have found that the hairstylists who respected my wish to grow it tended to be women.

Really, it's time you look for someone else. My advice is that you spot women around you who have amazing hair and ask them who is their stylist.

When my hair was short, I went every 5-7 weeks. I've been growing it out since summer and I often wait 3-4 months between cuts to let it grow and then just get the layers cleaned up and the minimal ends off. I only have an inch or two to go I think but the layers really need to be cleaned up so I should call soon.

I am bad. I have 2 great hairdressers that are also friends. One of whom I actually work with and see regularly at the bar, and yet I get a haircut 3 times a year average. Maybe 4 if I'm living in town and not moving coast to coast that year. I do tend to cut my own bangs and with long hair that's the most noticeable upkeep.

Julie, that's quite a maintenance schedule, but I bet it keeps things nice and neat!

Krishnidoux, that sounds like a good idea. I think I will try going in for a shampoo and bang trim in a few weeks. Also, I plan to stick with the same person that has done a nice job from now on. No more switching stylists in the same salon just because they have an opening. They never get a feel for my goals and hair like that.

Dianthus, that's what I usually tell my stylists when I go in... to trim the ends and clean up the layers. I think the "clean up the layers" part really throws them off and I end up with a lot off.

Mo, another self-bang cutter here. I usually trim mine at least twice between salon visits.

Every 10 weeks on average (depending on time and finances). I did have a diaster of a cut recently (shouldn't have let a new hairdresser anywhere near my hair!) so I'll probably go in another 6-7 weeks to get it fixed as much as possible.

I trim my bangs once a month or so. When I had shorter hair I was getting it cut once every 2-3 months. Now that I'm growing it out, I haven't had it cut in 7 months (I posted a pic on YLF not too long ago and people said there was no need to get a cut yet). When my hair was long before, I got it cut about twice a year, so that's what I'll be doing until I cut it short again.

I go when I need it, which probably amounts to 2-3 times a year. When freshly cut it is just past the shoulders, and then I let it grow until I get sick of it, which usually takes about 4-6 months. I'm lucky because my hair is healthy, I don't really get split ends, and it seems to retain its shape well. By the time it gets past the bottom of my bra band, I know it's time for another haircut appointment.

When it was shorter, I'd have to go every month, though I'd often stretch it to two months (which left my clawing at the walls) just to save money.

Now that it's getting longer, I'd like to keep it down to four times a year. I'm still growing it though. I started growing it in November, and just had it trimmed in March. I'm going to try and make it through to August before my next trim. While my hair is in good condition, it does require some cleaning up along the way. I find that if I don't go for these in-between trims, I'm more likely to get frustrated and chop it all off.

Bangs I get trimmed every month or so.

I have a mid-length curly bob-like cut -- so I go about every 3 months, mostly for a trim and layers.
When I had short-short hair I used to go about twice a month -- not quite Julies' schedule but not far behind.

Hey Julie! My hair is about 1/2 to 3/4 inches on the top, a tad shorter on the sides, with longer fringey bangs. I spike it with Schwartzkopf's Got2be Glued. It's fun and I never have a bad hair day.

I lived in Germany from 1988 to 2000 and the local salon owner created this style for me in 1991 before I went camping in Denmark with my husband and 5-year old son. I didn't want to worry about my hair. And I'm been wearing it this way for 20 years!

I would be so happy if I could get it cut every 3 weeks, but it is pricey.
I am now on every 4-6 weeks depending on when I can get to the salon.
