BTW, all is well - I hope to post a few pics soon; if not outfit pics then mountain pics. It's hot here, so my only regret is not enough hot weather clothes. But I DO have laundry facilities, so all is not lost.

That was a great laugh Suz, thank you! I certainly have to be "in the mood" to go thrift shopping and I have finally figured out what that feels like: energetic, antsy, bored, creative and full (stomach and wallet). I've learned not to cut my time short by shopping on my way to work or an appointment and not to go at the end of a long day when my feet hurt. If my feet hurt, *everything* starts to hurt, including my head. Otherwise I find thrifting mentally invigorating and physically relaxing, strange as that may seem.

I'm glad you're doing well and I wish I could fax you a few hot weather outfits, lol!

Thanks for bringing the warm weather with you, Suz.

I'm always telling my relatives to pack some hot weather clothes when they visit Banff in the summer because the daytime temps can really get up there if the sun is shining. At least you didn't pack a down puffer which my English sister-in-law insisted on bringing with her when she visited Banff a couple of years ago.

LOL, Suz. Now I know why I never thrift - because, between my job and my kids, I'm always tired, overwhelmed, in need of something specific, and on a timeline! Thank you for exonerating my of all my guilt that I never thrift : )

Ah, Suz, now I understand why I never seem to find anything whenever I go to the thrift/consignmernt store---like sarah, with my job and 2 kids, I am always "tired, overwhelmed, seeking a specific item, or on a tight timeline"! Thanks for explaining why I don't do well with thrifting!

Great read! My thrifting day is a non work day, when Master 9 is at school. It's heaven! I can take my time, usually have a wishlist and get to enjoy it.

I thrifted when my kids were little, but never for myself because I wear a size that's nigh impossible to find. As a matter of fact, I tried to consign my clothing, and was told by the store that none of their clients were as small as I and that they could not take them. Do only average-height women who are larger than size 6 thrift? Just wondering. One of my older DDs has found a few fab items at a local consignment shop, but she's not petite like I am.

I used to have a great thrift shop close to me years ago. For a couple of years I found some wonderful items, usually good brands and in new condition. It was a small store but very well organized and full of great items. I could actually pop in and find something within 20 mins. It seemd my size was the same size as 70% of their merchandise. The ladies who owned the store were elderly and they finally decided to close down shop. I still miss that place.

Deborah - my sister and I both thrift and wear small sizes. I'm thin although too tall for petites but my sister is about 5'2", wears petites and is also fairly thin. I enjoy thrifting but it does seem like the smaller sizes can be harder to find and are in shorter supply.

Interesting read! No wonder I don't thrift shop. I am always tired and overwhelmed! I think thrifting is for the Advanced Fashionista. I'm so impressed by what great things everyone finds and how cleverly they incorporate them into their wardrobes. I keep thinking someday I will give it a whirl, but it scares me.

I laughed out loud, Gaylene - I DID bring a puffer!! Not a coat, but my puffer vest. YIKES. I had no intentions of putting it in the suitcase, but before we arrived, guest services wrote us and instructed us to bring such a thing. I guess they were still having snow up to a few days before we got here.

Hm, as I remember the article, these all seemed like good ideas for any kind of shopping. Definitely have to be extra conscious of it when thrifting (or swapping), though, since you often can't rectify a mistake with a return.
