How much longer will moto jackets be in style?

I love the style and it's flattering on me, last winter I bought a cognac leather one, and am now considering one in knit, but don't want it to be out of style next winter. Two years ago I started reading YLF and everyone was talking about moto jackets then...so will we be good to go next year also?

I think the moto style jacket is possibly one of those timeless items? However I will defer to those more in the know

I love this style as well and hope it sticks around.

I know Angie has worn hers for years. It's probably true that they go from being trendy-hot and easily available to being less prominent, without ever looking truly dated.

I believe they are a classic. I have been wearing some variation or another of moto styles for 20+ years, and I intend to continue! I also find them very flattering and compatible with my style.

I have been in the stores shopping for fall/winter/just plain shopping and I have seen a lot of them. They are very figure flattering so I would think they'll be in style for a long time!

A good LEATHER moto jacket will always be in style, particularly if it has "classic" moto styling. I am not so sure about some of the trendier fabrications out there, though, like boucle or ponte knit. Still, I think even the trendy versions still have a lot of life left in them and you could probably wear it for a few years.

Have they gone out of style since the 50s? They've at *least* been strong since the punk era. I think we are all safe.

I had a crush on a boy in college partly because he had the coolest black leather moto jacket with zippers everywhere! He was Japanese with a spiky punk haircut, skinny jeans and had great taste in music (thanks to him, I started listening to The Jam). He's a clinical psychologist now but I hope his moto is stashed away somewhere in the back of his closet.

Thanks, everyone! Glad to know I'm safe with the leather, and I will try on the knit one to see if it's a perfect fit and then maybe wait for a sale. Must restrain the wild shopping impulses.

Mochi, you just reminded me my high school boyfriend had a bright red leather moto back in the mid 80's - he wore it everywhere!
And yes, they've been around since Brando and Dean were wearing them in the movies.

I've had a rendezvous with the pilot episode of Twin Peaks (1990 show) today, and James, one of the main characters, has the coolest moto ever! They are def classics.
