How much is too much to pay for a pair of shorts?

I tried on this pair of cotton shorts in Esprit today and I really liked both the colour and fit. I was all set to get them, when I saw the price tag of €70. Is it just me or is that really too much for a pair of shorts? They are really great shorts though

While that is a bit much for shorts, if you think you would wear them fairly often, than I would go for it. They are very pretty, btw.

Seems high $$ to me. How much will you wear them? And are those pleated in front? I'm not a fan of pleats on shorts or pants in general but maybe others would care to chime in on that topic. Seems like there will be a lot of choices in bright colored shorts this season.

I forgot where you live and what the climate is like there? If it is still too cold for them, than waiting for the sale would definitely be a great idea. I am a big fan of sales, but my size also tends to sell out first so if it is something I really want I have learned the hard way to get it immediately.

It would be too much for me. I think the most I would pay for cotton shorts (if I found the perfect pair) would be 50€. Have you a hard time finding shorts that fit? If yes and these fit perfectly I would think about it. I'm not sure waiting for the sales will work - they don't mark down everything (at least here) and if you have a common size there might not be any left even if they do. Were you successful with sales at Esprit in the past?

To me it depends on your budget and how much you will wear them. My shorts were expensive given my budget, but I only have about 2 pairs which get lots of wear in the summer. So when I consider the cost per wear, it seems like a good value.

texstyle: Yep, there's one pleat. But I don't mind it! But you're right - I'm sure there will be a lot of shorts options as the weather heats up.

Tanya: I'm in France and it is still pretty chilly here. I'd have to wait a few weeks to wear them atleast.

Astrid: I haven't had a problem with shorts at all, so I guess I should just wait it out for a better pair. I haven't bought from Esprit during the sales yet, but I'll keep an eye out for these just in case

This seems like a lot for a pair of shorts for someone living in France and not in the desert, but they do fulfill some of your style resolutions if they are top quality. They are also red. If you feel fabulous in them, can wear them enough to get a reasonable cost per wear and think you may spend the rest of the season looking for something to equal them if your size sells out, get them.
You might wait until your 15 day challenge is over and hope they are reduced a bit by then.

Kirti, while I agree that is a lot of coin to spend on one pair of shorts, if they DO fit you brilliantly, you will wear them all spring/summer and you love them then I say buy them now. If you wait for the French soldes (July, right?), you risk your small size being sold out.

I'm ambivalent. Seems to me to depend on the number of shorts you own and how often you wear them. If it's just one great pair that'll get a whole lot of wear (like 2-3 times a week for 2-3 months), I *might* consider it --- though honestly it *is* a bit rich for my blood (but I'm also trying *not* to see that tag in terms of INR!) and I'd probably wait it out, if I were in your oxfords.
