How much are you willing to gamble on a final sale?

Specifically shoes. I found the Maison Martin Margiela split toe Tabi boots at a great price in my size, but they are final sale.

I'm not willing to buy any shoes final sale online, unless they're an exact duplicate of something I have or if I have tried them on and walked around in them before. My feet are just too fussy.

ETA: I'm assuming yours are online, so no chance of trying them on first?

Do you have any other shoes that have this kind of toe thing? Because I know it would drive me nuts. But other people wear flip flops and those weird sneaks, no problem. I wouldn't gamble it unless you want a new addition to your shoe museum.

I am not willing to gamble anything, unless I have tried the item on IRL and know it works. It's the one sticking point I have when shopping - I must be able to return or exchange. E-bay is an exception, but generally I only look for items I'm already familiar with or know the fit.

I am asking myself the same thing today. I really don't know... as long as I can resell, it takes some of the sting off a no-returns policy, but sometimes you don't even know that. My item is a pair of R13 jeans. :T

It depends on what it is and how much it is. I'll admit to buying quite a few things final sale because I need them to be cheap. I scour the web for reviews, do a lot of measuring and then decide if I feel like its a gamble I can win. More times than not its turned out in my favor.

But I'm going to assume I'm working with a much smaller price point than you.

Ok thanks everyone. Totokaelo has them full price in a different color in my size. But I can't get there till this weekend to try them on. I'm hoping that the ones on sale online won't sell out before then. Sometimes I get so excited about a certain item I get very irrational.

I've been tempted by final sale items but never give in because of worries they won't fit. I'd rather put the money I might lose that way towards something returnable. I'm not a gambler, though. Crossing my toes that you get to try on from the other place and then buy on sale!

I did a double-take there...I *think* you mean the second sentence.

Anyway, I wouldn't do final sale on a pair of shoes. I learned my lesson with the Tod's loafers that fell apart on me. Different situation--but shoes are more complicated than other items, I learned.

Probably up to $200, but I have a lot of really nice people in my life who are a bit smaller than me and I can pass things on to if they don't fit.

I got these awesome DVF boots on final sale last week from shopbop, marked down to $119 from $498(CDN). They fit, but it was a bit of a nail biter.

Anna, I know exactly what you mean about the sale buying frenzy. Sometimes I've missed out on something, but almost always it is still there when I go to buy it later. I'm working very hard at breaking myself of that "buy, buy quick" reflex. It is an expensive habit. Patience always serves me better.

I wouldn't buy these shoes as final sale without trying on the Totokaelo pair first. The fit looks too tricky--trickier than other shoes. Swapping out the socks you wear with them or stretching isn't going to help you adjust the size up or down. I vote try the Totokaelo pair first.

I'd be very unlikely to buy shoes final sale without being able to try them on, even though my feet are not fussy. Unless you absolutely know you could recoup most of the cost by selling them on eBay or the like.

I never buy anything final sale online, unless I have tried the exact same style in store before. Unless you can locate these in store and try them on, I would advise against taking the risk.

As much as I'm willing to shrug off without it bothering me if the item doesn't work out. And I don't factor in the possibility of re-selling to recoup my money--if that happened, I'd treat the extra cash as a pleasant surprise.

Given the recent footwear fails on here (from possible fakes to seconds from zappo's discount site to those boots that had shoe polish or something on them) I'd be concerned they were final sale for a reason.
