For the wedding, my sister is setting up a Go Fund Me for our Honeymoon fund. People will be able to contribute, rather than buying gifts. We have to come up with a goal amount, though. We haven't decided where we are going, so it will just be an estimate, but I'm not sure what we should make the goal. How much would you budget for a week long tropical vacation for two (or something similarly relaxing)? I've never taken that type of vacation, so I really don't know.

I’d price it out. Pick a place that seems representative of what you might like. Prices have really changed. The place I like in the Carribean… eek, rooms are starting at $800 a night now! Yeah. Will just have to treasure the memories, ha!

If you belong to AAA, they offer package deals to Hawaii and I think Mexican resorts - maybe call them for a quote.

Or as Rachy says, price it out online.

A reasonable budget depends on the place. You can get something in the vicinity of what you’re talking about for 2000 to 15000 for two people for the week. You could just ask for money now and wait to go shopping when you have the budget, or you could pull up https://www.kayak.com/packages and spend 5-10 minutes dreaming aka narrowing things down a bit so you can give people an idea. Or you could decide where you want to go and set up the GFM to cover airfare, accommodations, & basic meals, then put a “extras” on the registry—a fancy dinner, snorkel /scuba trip, zip lining, couples massages, guided tour, show, whatever. That fleshes it out a bit and gives people an image of what they’re “buying”, instead of throwing money into a bag.

Ok. I Googled ‘two-week honeymoon all-inclusive packages price’ and the lowest I saw was $140 a night.

Dang, Rachylou, that’s half what I guessed at the low end! 1 week @ 2000 vs 2 weeks at 1960. Where is it?

If it was me, I’d go for fancy glamping in a place that’s not muggy at night, or charter a skippered/crewed yacht.

Dang, I spent 2 weeks in Malaysia for my 2020 honeymoon & rooms were much less than what @Rachy quoted - even though the room in Langkawi (the duty-free island) included a jacuzzi! The weekend spent in Penang (the city) was decidedly more expensive, though...

So it really *does* depend on where you go & what you plan to do whilst there - our total expenses in Malaysia came to ~$2500 USD (19000 Hong Kong dollars), with about half of that going to hotel costs. But we weren't in a five-star hotel, & we also weren't particularly adventurous - whilst we did some island hopping/ exploring & ocean swimming etc, we also spent a lot of time just watching the sunset from the western-facing beach (which we walked to & from), lol Wouldn't have had it any other way, though!

Oh drat, I didn’t note specific location and now can’t find it again (probably changed overnight as these things will do). I’m sure things like how far in advance you book and how covid and war are effecting business, contribute to pricing. I’d aim for $5000 personally, thinking about spending money and so forth and trying to be reasonable.

I usually budget $6000CA for everything - flight, accommodations, meals, side trips, etc. We’ve come in under budget by being willing to fly farther (4-5 hrs vs 3 hrs) to a less popular, but equally warm destination. kkards and racheylou’s estimate of $4000-$5000US sounds reasonable.

I was going to say $6K, is what I have had in my mind for a long time. But that’s NZ $. For US $ a 5K fund should get you a good trip, I hope.

Agree with others to do some basic research for travel costs, hotels and meals and local must-dos. Then you can sort out the workable location of the trip . I have seen many wedding registries here focus on specific trip related items guests can contribute to. The contributions all go in the same pot, yet the sites, rather than stating the entire honeymoon cost as a goal, have special meals, tours, boat rides, guides, airfare, massage, etc. noted. It is possible for multiple guests to contribute to the same category or for one guest to fund all of a category. Folks can choose what appeals to them and it avoids the need to communicate the total cost. It does seem to require that some details be in place. Of course, sites used and expectations can vary by region, so this format may not be what works best for your wedding. With Covid potentially impacting destination options, plus the possibility for some of the honeymoon not coming immediately after a wedding, this approach could require that too much be known in advance. It’s an exciting time, with so many details. Enjoy.

I don’t have info re costs, but when we got married eons ago, a number of people were upset that we hadn’t registered anywhere. If your amount is too low, will some people feel that they can’t donate? If so, up the amount.
