How many of you are wearing chunky gold watches?

I just replaced my old chunky silver watch, but I'm starting to think I might exchange it for the same version in gold. A few years ago, I wouldn't have considered it, but I'm finding that I'm wearing more gold these days (after a long hiatus...10 years, maybe), and Angie's gold watch looks so good on her.

You all know I'm a minimal dresser all the way around. Would a big gold watch be too much for a non-magpie? Or does the look have staying power and versatility with my style?

Gorgeous watch! It definitely has staying power, and I think it would work well with your style. To answer your initial question, I don't currently wear a chunky gold watch, but a gold boyfriend watch has been on my wishlist for at least two years. I found a perfect one by Fossil a year or two ago, but I thought about it for too long and it sold out

I have been wearing mixed-metal watches for years now but lately have been craving a gold one like that- Love it.
I recently thrifted an all-silver one and just didn't like it on my wrist, especially since I wear on my left and my rings are gold.

I have always been on "team gold" and I think that you are ahead of the curve as I see gold coming back in. This is a very pretty watch.

It's beautiful! I think gold really stands out in a way that silver doesn't. Maybe that's because it's been all silver for a decade or two, but maybe gold just shows up more on me, and silver tends to blend in with my coloring more. I had a navy blazer with gold buttons and I used to get lots of second glances at the buttons, in particular. I have a very small bust, so I'm quite sure it was the gold buttons getting the attention, lol!

I have a chunky watch in a mix of rose gold and silver and would still be wearing it if the battery hadn't died. I haven't remembered to replace it yet.

I really like the one you posted and think it would be a nice addition to many outfits.

I moved to Team Gold three years ago when I turned 40. I literally woke up one day and loved gold. It actually looks better on my skin tone too. Why the heck did I spend 40 years in silver and platinum? The mind boggles.

Here's my newest chunky gold watch. I chose one with a black face for a change because it feels retro.

My watch has a chunky gold face but has also has a black leather strap. I adore this watch and it's retro integrity.

I think a gold watch would work with your style, silver does suggest refinement but to my eye gold is classic.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question, Beth. Why would a gold watch not have staying power? Go for it. Jules thinks it's classic - which is true of course - yet I view it as the modern metal. The brand new iphone 5 has been released in gold, and is sold out.

Whenever I add gold to my outfits, they feel more modern somehow. They feel more classic when I add back the silver.

I think gold is very classic. I remember when I was shopping for an engagement ring a few years back, you barely saw any yellow gold. More recently I am seeing much more yellow gold jewelry. I think the metals, as with everything else in fashion, come in and out of phase. If you like the yellow gold, go for it!

In my mind, yellow gold IS gold. That's gold's natural colour, and it is always timeless and classic. I have chunky gold watch (though I rarely wear watches), and I feel that it goes with almost everything.

I have a chunky Michael Kors gold watch - and its not the gold that is the issue for me, its the chunkiness. I have really pared down my accessories and alot of times my gold watch just feels too big.

I wear mine with most of my outfit and have found it not too much at all. I even sometimes add a gold bracelet to "soften" up the look without making it too heavy. I say go for it, you won't regret it.

One of my students has one in a pink gold, and it looks very, very flattering too with all her outfits. Something to investigate.

Marley, my concern exactly. I tried the chunky white watch but never wore it because it just annoyed me. I type all day on a PC and it gets in the way. But I love the look! I keep sitting on the fence myself and haven't picked but I did put one on my xmas list

I think it's gorgeous (but I have a DKNY Nolita wich is very similar). I have been adding to my watch collection so I can use them as an accessory. I have Gold (which I probably wear the most), white, tortoise, rose gold, silver with black face and a striped band Nixon (red and blue). I can't see ever giving up on the gold - it's the one I reach for most. As for the size it's a preference on how it feels. I cannot wear any bracelets as they make my wrist feel achy, but I can wear a huge watch with no problem.

Angie, I had a similar experience. For years, silver has looked more modern to me and gold felt classic and almost...dated. Then I woke up one day and gold looked new again! I'm guessing YLF was working its usual subliminal educating.

Several of you mentioned size, which was something I was also thinking about. So I took a page from MaryK's book and searched less expensive watches. I found an Anne Klein watch at Amazon for $31 (!) which is a slightly smaller, less detailed version than the standard 38mm size.

Lyn, my rings are gold too, which will look nice with a similar watch. And Claire, I hear you on the navy blazer. The gold buttons really stand out and look great.

Looking forward to my new watch!

Its awesome. I generally wear silver, gold, black with white face, and few different color watches that match with my dresses. Whenever I wear gold watch it look official to me and most of the time I wear it to official meetings & parties. Among all the fashion branded watches, I like Fastrack & for official wear I prefer Titan Raga watch.

I used to wear watches all the time and now, nothing. I suppose I didn't want a tan line in the summer time and because I was outdoors so much. Maybe I'll get back into it because I do love my accessories.

My chunky silver watch is from five or six years ago (when "boyfriend" watches were a new look and not very common). I have worn it daily since I bought it and it's the only wardrobe item that I love today as much as I did five years ago.

I think I'm a silver girl through and through, but I expect to wake up one day, like Beth, and find that gold suddenly looks fresher to me.

A very fashion-forward co-worker of mine has been wearing a rose gold Michael Kors watch for years.

I got a nice goldtone automatic Seiko from my father in law about year ago. It's an old mens watch that is now too small for most men to wear. Makes a great chunky watch for me!

I actually wore it today with an off white top, jeans, and patent red wedges with brassy gold hardware.

All my other daily wear jewelry is silver tones (wedding and engagement rings). It's definitely taken me time to get used to wearing gold.

This is very similar to my MK Runway watch - I have a slightly different band. I love to have a gold watch. I think mine is 2 years old and I feel like it still has a lot of staying power. I wear mixed metals but love to pull it out for "golder" days. And I don't wear a ton of jewelry so I am not a magpie. It's often the only jewelry I am wearing besides rings and small earrings. It's a classic statement piece. I say yes!

I am a watch fiend and I love my one and only gold bracelet watch, the others are silver toned, or leather bands ( love my Minnie Mouse watch in red leather band). Unfortunately I can't wear the chunky ones because my wrists are too small.

I also yearn for a rose gold watch. Might start looking for one soon.

I love watches. I have a chunky Bulova watch that is stainless steel and gold that I wear the most. I have a couple of gold watches that are very dressy. I love silver and gold. Gold looks better on my skin but I like the design of silver jewellery so I wear both. I don't care if the 2 metals are mixed.

You look like a winter in colouring and ideally winters and summers look best with white gold. Springs and Autumns suit yellow gold. Yellow gold is certainly beautiful and I wear it sometimes, but I know white gold or silver suit my colouring more. Something to think about anyway.....
