How many flats does a girl need?

Inspired by all the closet activities on YLF I decided to see what I actually have to see what (if) I'm missing. Very interesting to see one's like shoes all together. Shows personal trends.

For your consideration my collection of 1. Loafer Flats (B.O.C. Oxfords - need to dye metallic???, BC Crown Metallic Loafers (Hi Twin Kari) , DV Blue Suede Tassel Smoking loafers (sigh - $20 on sale!!!), Arturo Chang Patent Nude ($24);\
2. Ballet Flats (From top row L) LL Bean Signature, Katie/Kellie Grey Patent, Leopard Low Heels, Sam Edelmans (ANGIE TWIN - $50!!!!!) , Cole Haan sequins, Arturo Chang 2 tone bow, Me Too Black quilted, Arturo Chang Parisian Black toe flats.

I note that they are all neutral except the first blue pair and they are very close to neutral navy. If you wear flats a lot, it is reasonable to have quite a few pairs. I wear boots a lot in winter so have more than the average person might have and think that is okay.

For me, one light neutral, one dark neutral, and one colored pair are plenty. I try and keep this rule of thumb in mind when it comes to any new trend or item I'm introducing, so I don't go overboard with repeating any one thing until I'm sure it's an essential of mine, and then the sky's the limit. But to each their own!

I have very few, perhaps a pair of black Revas, red, taupe pointy toe, leopard loafers and yellow patent round toe. I seem to go from sandals to boots so they get very little use.

I think you are all set! Perhaps something in a bright color could be fun.

I think it depends on your lifestyle. If you wear flats daily, then this amount may be right for you. Black loafers would be a good idea because IMHO ballet flats seem more spring/summer like while loafers are more a fall/winter shoe.

I agree with others in that it depends on your lifestyle and how you want the shoe to work your wardrobe. I'm a boot gal, so I have 3 pairs of flats (Converse, burgundy slipper loafers, and neutral oxfords) and a ton of boots.

If you want to expand, maybe a trendy slipper loafer or more oxfords? Or for casual wear, some fashion sneakers?

Love to see your flat shoe collection, I only have 3 (but value them a lot:-)): one black patent leather, one brown-black animal, and one light grey(all with a 1 inch block chunky heel), but I'm on the hunt for a pair of metallics and one of two tones like you have on the right side.

I do a lot of walking. I also like to change shoes every other day to allow them to "dry" out between wearings so I own a lot of really good flat shoes. They serve me very well.

Mo you have a sound solution, and I tried that theory once, but ended up with multiples in dark, light and color neutrals. I just like my shoes.
This collection does not include my converse and athletic/casual flats. (hanging head in shame) and I have not yet pulled out the boots and booties (I am truly a boot girl and can't wait to get at them).
@Mary I have to change shoes every day too (this might justify all my shoes?)
Thanks for looking and commenting, I'm trying to get a record of what I have so I avoid overbuying.

JJ, I understand what you're saying. The theory works great for me when I'm just newly dipping my toe in - skinny jeans and ballet flats were the first items that I started with 2 years back. Then, if after a few months I find I'm grabbing for said items all the time, I feel buying more in varied colors or fabrications is justified and will likely be worn. I've just burned myself before, getting a 'bug' for something and buying it up before really road testing.
Ends up - this *was* the perfect amount of flats for me. Summers are too sweaty in FL for them a lot and winters are too snowy in Tahoe for them. So they get worn in my tiny spring/fall window that equals maybe 3 months total. Perfect!
Now, the skinny jeans were a hit, and I have at least half a dozen pair in varying colors, and wear them all!

You have a great flat shoe collection. I like the suggestions to add a bright color or maybe a red pair. For myself I prefer flat shoes instead of sandals, especially a shoe I can wear with a sock or ped.
I currently have 4 pairs of flat shoes:
loafer- 1 (new purchase for this season in black)
boatshoe - 1 (grey with leopard)
mules - 2 (my summer shoes, black and stone)

I live in flats so I think your collection is just about perfection. A red might be a fun one to add when you stumble on it. Love the new leopard print with red accent though.
If those blue oxfords don't fit Jayne then send them my way

i love your flats collection. very wearable and sufficiently varied to be fully functional. not sure i would go for the new print one, but i can see this working with much of your prepster wardrobe.

I always thought the answer to the question, "How many flats does a girl need?" was "All of them. All of tr flats. Ever." Was I mistaken?

I have twelve pairs myself. Black, brown loafers, gold loafers, quilted silver ballerinas, red ballerinas, pink ballerinas, leopard flats, the same Arturo Changs you have, teal ballerinas ... Times two, quilted suede flats with patchwork of different jewel tones, and silver with cutouts. Thats not counting some lace up men's style dress shoes.

I find the light pink ballerinas to be very versatile. I would recommend the color.

OK, I'll bite. One pair for when you die and they can't fit you into your casket because you're wearing heels...

For when you die and all your friends have divided up all your gorgeous heels amongst themselves and there are none left for you to wear on your last ride.

I think that covers it.

Here's to not needing those flats for a looooooooooooooooong time to come.
