My boot collection has also exploded recently. I have:
~ medium-heeled black dress boots by Sudini that I wear all the time
~ Dansko suede brown boots that are the comfiest thing on earth that also get decent use; also rather dressy
~ dark brown boots with a slight "motorcycle" style ~ very casual and also getting good use
And I 've just ordered two more boots from NAS ~ OTK SW boots in black and a pair of brown Fryes; the first are dressy, the second more casual.
Like Maya and MNSara, I live in a climate that give me good reason to wear boots most of the year. Since joining YLF, I can see myself expanding that to all four seasons with some lighter colored additions. But I don't plan any more boot buys for a good while. I totally get how you feel; I can easily become enamored with a certain aspect of style and have to be careful I don't cross the line into overdoing it.
If I were you, I'd take a good look at my closet and see if the new boots I'm considering fit in well and would get good use. If not, I would want to already have in mind what to buy that would work for me and for the boots. I'd also try to ensure that I had made good progress in filling holes for basics and backbones in my wardrobe before stocking up on a lot of boots. But I tend to be cautious and methodical.
I don't see how your climate limits you in boot wearing a whole lot if that's what you like to wear. San Diego weather has its cool and breezy spells!
