How Is Shop the Sales January Going

After seeing posts that assume we are all doing shopping penance in January for our sins last year, I thought it was time to start a new thread. For those of us that hit our budgets by shopping the sales, how is that going?

I tracked down new canvas totes for summer at American Leather for under $ 75 each. And great teal and walnut color way pieces at Dooney and Burke.

I have a bunch of sweaters on order; not sure which I will keep. And picked up Hobbs and Tommy Bahama tees.

I have some brown and black Talbots pants on order and already found great cords at Boden, cargoes from Lafayette 148 and long Vince shorts.

I am still trying new to me shoe brands to see what now fits my feet. Hoping the Dansko brand will work. Thank goodness for free returns.

I saw this navy striped jumper on sale at Talbots and ordered one in a petite. Should be here tomorrow. It's symbolic. A reminder to be kind, soft and big-hearted.

Shopping sales is a good strategy. I used to do so in January too - but sales here are frequent and at all times of the year. I actually preferred the end of season sales approach than the constant sales we see now.

Angie, love your Talbots pick. My sweater order mostly has picks from familiar brands. But I am also trying Brodie, not sure what to expect. They have some fun looking patterns. I will likely end up keeping half a dozen, as my yearly sweater refresh.

I received a Boden gift card for Christmas and was thrilled to see a red coat I had been eyeing go on sale at a significant discount. I have it on order and my fingers are crossed. A red wool coat has been a hewi for a long time!

Ha, this is meeeee! January is always big for me; it's a new budget year, the sales are fantastic, and I spend November and December shopping for other people, so it's my turn (cue Mama Rose in Gypsy). Then I'll chill out until warmer weather arrives.

Loft and Banana Republic took most of my dollars. I found an ivory cable sweater (mostly cotton and wool!), black ponte pants, and a sleeveless blouse at BR, and the Finds below from Loft. Oh, and a spacedye sweater from Loft that I don't have a Find for, but am wearing this minute.

My goal is to purchase at least 50% of clothing second hand this year, and to that end bought a J Crew and a Nic & Zoe sweater (Picture below), a red leather bag, and a pair of NYDJ corduroy pants from eBay and Poshmark.

I got an LL Bean gift card for Christmas, so am eyeballing a few things there.

Interesting that I don’t really feel there are huge sales in January here. Of course we are the opposite season to most of you. Like Sal said there are sales fairly constantly. When I went into 4 thrift stores a few days ago I did notice even they were having sales, one of them had a lot of items 50% off which took the pants I was interested in (sadly they didn’t fit, too big and long) from $12 down to $6. I feel a lot of our businesses have bigger sales at Easter and Black Friday and Boxing Day. But it’s because I am so well stocked already and trying to be low-shop for environmental reasons that I am not hooked into sales.
Like you Roberta I am trying to buy more second hand.

I'm doing Poshmark now as I've already mentioned.
I replaces my most comfortable navy blue sandals ( worn the last 2 years at work and out in summer 75% of the time ) with the same style but in brown/bronze/soft beige ( interesting color ) and in dark green/black/beige color. Both pairs required me to reshuffle color combinations with determination of wearing those new sandals as much as old ones. I'm putting my less fav grey jeans in heavier rotation and adding 3 new ( or almost new ) graphic tank tops from the Poshmark as well.
I remember thinking that if Time Machine would exists - I'd go back in time and get more of my fav shoes and clothes from previous time when the natural fibers were more prevalent and comfortable leather shoes were more available as well. I guess Poshmark is my Time Machine now - lol.

Oh how fun to see everyone’s picks. There really are some great pants out there; I dimly recall the years when the only thing available was jeans. Cargoes, barrels, crops….

And lots of interesting sweaters.

As I mentioned, I bought a dress from Marimekko. Even with a discount of almost 60%, the price was high for me. But it’s a rare find at this price. No alterations needed unless I would want to cut regular sleeves to short sleeves. But I will decide later. Another item is a cashmere cardigan from Aritzia. I changed buttons to pearls.

I like everyone's shopping picks! I am sort of removed from the sales cycle but agree that it does seem that there is always some sort of sale going on somewhere. My "sales" season is coming up - when everyone starts Spring cleaning and the most amazing coats and jackets get donated .
