I find that many of the original designs done in a quality way are from designer labels. I HATE most things with logos on display (if it's small, then fine, but some things...like the giant Tory Burch logos on her tote bags...GAH!).
I have found that falling in love with an item that's expensive and then trying to replicate the look with less expensive items is very dissatisfying to me because it never really quite is up to par with the original.
I have also found that some designers skimp on quality and try to get by with their name alone and this is beyond frustrating (e.g. a recent 3.1 Philip Lim sweater dress that was made of an acrylic blend). I think it's easier to find quality in the designer section but that doesn't mean you can assume it's all quality product!
At this point, my wardrobe is so big that I don't need anything...I'd rather save my money for something special.
Also, r.e. a comment about about carrying designer bags...I saw a woman yesterday carrying a LV bag but she was wearing too short bootcut Levi's, a fleece zippy, and running shoes. The bag just looked silly! Designer logo's only emphasize your style-less-ness if you wear them like that!
