I love accessories. I wear the same watch, rings and gold cuff every day, but change up my necklace and earrings daily.

I love cooler weather because I enjoy wearing scarves for warmth. However, scarves are not a huge part of my style, I tend to wear one once per week.

As for sunglasses, I have a few pairs, but my current favourite is a black cats eye that goes with everything. I wear sunglasses every day, they are a complete essential for me. I do enjoy my mirrored aviators too.

Bags are definitely a weakness for me. I love them and use them all. My taste seems to have moved from larger styles to smaller handle style bags. Smaller bags mean I do not have to rummage around never able to find what I am looking for.

My favourite items to purchase are bags and clothes. I like shoes, but find the quest for comfortable and attractive shoes frustrating at times and for this reason tend to buy the same brands.

How great to read about all the accessories and all the different points of view, thank you ALL for sharing them.

Excuse me for being brief now, I am off to explore some charity shops to find some more ACCESSORIES

I will be back to answer properly and maybe to share some finds.

I’m NOT an accessories person. Accessories are mainly functional (warm scarf, earrings to draw attention to the face) and must not be fussy. I much prefer and admire well cut clothes over accessories, that’s just me.
From a style perspective, I’m trying to up my accessories game, as I now see that even a few selected pieces can really tie an outfit together. Prompted by your questions, Katarina, I now see that accessories are completers for me: they must tie a color palette together, add some interest, support the main act (the clothes). Only my stud earrings and specs (and booties if you count shoes) are essentials for me. I don’t feel right in an outfit where an accessory is the statement piece typically.

What a fun thread! Katerina, I so enjoy your inspired accessory combos. What did you find at the charity shops today?

Earrings, scarves and bags play an important supporting role but are not statement pieces in my wardrobe. My collection of patterned tops are what I build my outfits around. Dangly silver earrings and crossbody bags are signature for me, though. In winter, I also wear a long, flowy scarf daily.

I pick up the bags and scarves second hand, and always have an eye out for them. I have many great quality scores from over the years and always check those sections when I am in a thrift store, which is every week!

The earrings are carefully chosen new and I only add a couple of pairs a year. That's because very few seem to work for me so I've become very particular about them. Once I find a pair that suits me, I wear them for decades.

What a fun thread! I wear a small pendant necklace, stud earrings daily; I have three rings, and a couple of watches I wear - when I remember to put them on. I have a box full of other pieces, but I never know how to style them. I love the idea of a bigger earring, but I haven't felt comfortable in them yet - maybe they're the wrong size or shape for my face ?

if shoes are an accessory, than i'm all about the accessories....

i love shoes and use them to keep my outfits current and fun. i use belts as a way to complete my outfits, and am always on the look out for the perfect belt, ie the one thats the right lenght and in a the right color....i use scarfs not so much as an outfit completer, but as a way to deal with uneven temperature, so i almost always have one in my bag, i keep a couple at my desk at work, i am always on the look out for a new one in a lightweight wool in colors/patterns that work with my basic wardrobe....i don't wear jewelery, i love bags but i'm not a bag changer...

I love accessories and have lots. This statement of yours had me nodding in agreement, “I try to create complements in many, many colours. I use pattern in scarves, but almost never in clothes.” I just got a consignment pair of pink loafers I am excited about but want to find a compliment pink bag,.
“Do you have any accessories/clothes/shoes ratio for your wardrobe or your budget?” I do not have a ratio but do look for accessories to compliment each other. If I add a new color, I am looking for accessories in that color that are not too match.
“Do you prefer shopping for clothes and/or shoes or accessories? “ g I like to shop for accessories most because of more limited need for try on and I am more focused.
“How do you use colours and patterns in your wardrobe? “. I am picky about patterns and like to mix them in an outfit. Like you, I use scarves mostly in patterns.
And what is your favourite kind of accessories?” It is probably scarves of all fabrics and shapes and sizes. I search out those with colors and pattern that will pull colors in an outfit together like navy and black or red and brown. Since reading YLF, I have added more shoes, bags, and other accessories. You have inspired me to wear more dramatic scarves and to wear brooches. Mainelady has inspired more wear of bracelets, especially in groups of three. Brooklyn has made me excited about cuffs. Angie and her love of bags, to name just a few.

Katerina, you are Queen Vintage Accessories. You wear them with best of them - especially sunnies, scarves and very structured bags. They take your outfits to the next level of fabness, and are the show stoppers.

I LOVE accessories. I am though, very, very focused with them and do not branch out much:

  • Bags are my favourite. I have many, and change them daily.
  • I have a few real and custom-made white pearl pieces that I wear daily.
  • one gold watch that I wear daily
  • three pairs of statement specs
  • two pairs of statement sunnies (with prescriptions so I can only have a few pairs)
  • scarves
  • carefully chosen hats
  • the BEST vintage Yorkie brooch in the world
I used to wear lots of belts - still have them - but don't wear them much anymore. I like the my high waists sans belts.

I love accessories and if someone made me choose between a plain wardrobe with lots of accessory choices and a very colorful, patterned wardrobe with no accessories, I’d choose the plain clothes with accessories every time.

I have a large collection of scarves, jewelry, bags, and footwear and enjoy the heck out of them. Especially statement rings. Even my simplest outfit has a statement ring.

I also enjoy my two pairs of vintage sunglasses (prescription) — high five, Angie!

I think accessories are critical to making an outfit. Especially if most of your clothes are grey.

I love to look at accessories and have a collection of silver jewelry, scarves, fun hats, and belts. On a daily basis though my most important accessories are earrings, mostly but not always hoops, bags and I would say shoes because I use them as accessories I think.

I am full of appreciation of your use of accessories Katerina and am often inspired to add more to my outfits based on your posts!

Thank you very much, ladies, for all the answers, I so enjoy them. And thank you for the inspiration.

Interesting about shoes. I have not thought of shoes as accessories, but of course, they are accessories in a way. Personally, I am not a shoe person, my least favorite fashion category. But since I joined YLF, I expanded my shoe wardrobe and started to appreciate how shoes can change an entire outfit. I pay more attention to which shoes I wear with what.

Shoes are not accessories! They are Footwear, and a category all on its own, like Clothing.

Agreeing with Angie! Accessories are optional, except glasses if need, but shoes aren't (outside the house).

They are important to me - but maybe not my strength.... If we exclude shoes (where I think I do get it right) I feel good about sunglasses, hats and rings..... and belts (when I wear them). I am not so good with bags, scarves and other jewelry - and I admire yourself Katerina and some other forum members who do it so well.

I think part of the problem (for me) was that with my hair (volume), face shape and body type, over the last few years with skinny trousers and volume on the top I quickly get ALGO (a lot going on) especially since I wear glasses or sunglasses a lot. I am deliberately choosing simpler tops at the moment so I can wear more accessories and pattern/volume on the bottom half which makes me feel more balanced. This could all be in my mind of course!!!
