How high are "knee high" boots supposed to come up? ADDED PICS

Is there a preferred distance below the kneecap that "knee high" boots should end, or is this a matter of wearer preference?

My Frye Dorados arrived, and as Joy predicted here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....arrow-calf , they really do go all the way to the base of my kneecap. It doesn't bother me in terms of comfort, but is there a rule (I know, I know) about what looks proportionate?

Hoping you'll all say no, because I really love these boots.

ETA: Okay, here are hasty photos, with me perching on a little piece of fabric to avoid scuffing the bottoms. Thoughts?

I believe that they should hit the largest part of your calf.

April, I would have kept them if they didn't actually ram the knee cap painfully when i walked. Aren't they lovely!? I'll be watching for Angie's answer.
BTW, I had some difficultly getting the return confirmation emailed to me so I called 6pm. The nice young man got me free return shipping when I explained that I knew the boots were tall (which he pointed out to me) but from their description of the boots , I thought the leather would scrunch down. Mine were too stiff to do this and didn't feel like they ever would.

I think they are a bit too high :(. The gray boots from Angie's boots are actually OTK, I think. But, I'm far from being an expert..

These look "off" to me. I prefer when boots either hit right below the start of the knee or covering the entire knee, hitting the bottom of the thigh. These are hitting in the knee area, an odd spot. Also did you sit down with these that high yet? One reason I brought the Frye Jane Tall Cuff to the YLF swap, they hit me in the same odd spot as these boots are hitting you. Uncuffed the were in the knee area and it drove me batty after a while. Especially sitting down.

Can you sit in them or do they hurt the back of your knee?

I did sit on a low ottoman in them to check that out, but I think my love of the color and distressed finish on the boots may have contributed to my opinion that they felt fine.

They are lovely but honestly, I think they look too high - they are severing your legs in the middle - not high enough for OTK. I am about to get rid of a old but gorgeous pair of gray Bronx boots for this same reason. I do wear them with skirts sometimes which looks better because it doesn't make my thighs so short.

Okay, more pics.

One of them shows the boots scrunched down. As Joy pointed out, the description of these boots said they could be worn this way, but hers kept popping back up. I haven't walked much in these that way, but they did stay down when I really shoved them down.

And guess what -- I don't think I can return them anyway because my responsible DS put out the boxes with the recycling today. So ladies, even if you hate these, it's time to help me "Make it work!"

I really like them scrunched! They look like a different pair of boots, can they stay slightly scrunched like that? I think you can condition them to slouch by scrunching them and keeping them like that for a while. I do really like them like that

I think the boots are gorgeous. My best guess would be to keep the contrast low with skinnies or hose and dresses. They do seem to hit in a similar spot to Angie's grey ones in the front and since they dip in back it seems they won't inhibit your knee bending.

Those look fine to me! The dip in the back makes them work. Definitely wearable with low contrast legs (skinnies or tights)

Once they're scrunched they look good to my uneducated eye, I like the dip in the back also.

I agree to keep them scrunched and with low-contrast legs. Nice buy!

Also, could you use a leather conditioner to soften the leather and make them scrunchier over time?

I have grey boots that hit me in a similar spot. I love them so much and they make me feel great so I honestly don't care--and I don't think it looks weird. I think they're great!
