How do your flats fit you?

You Look Fab has convinced me to give flats another try. However, bc I have wide big feet I have a hard time fitting them. I am going to try the infamous Me Too brand at DSW later this week. When I find flats I like, I find that they tend to gape out around my foot and that is not flattering. It makes my foot look wider than it is. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this just the way it is with flats? I'd like one that hugs the foot and helps to slenderize my foot as I plan to wear them with skinny jeans.

I wear *only* flats and I have wide feet... and I think they look just fine. For me, the best flats are flexible and soft, and have some elastic at the heel to hold my foot in. I have the gaping problem when the shoes are too stiff and don't form to my foot. They're super flexible and soft and that's why they're so good for my large wide feet. Soft leather is key. They hug my feet in a flattering way and I can wear them with anything and I think they make my gigantic feet look pretty!

and in the more comfortable size they gape around my foot and make my wide foot even wider! yikes! I've seen that style you mentioned, I might try a similar one in DSW.

Thanks for the tips....I also think it is great that you go for quality! I tend to go for cheap and that does not pay in the long run!!

Incidentally, does anyone know about stretching pleather??

I think those Merona ones would definitely gape around my foot too... they're too stiff. I think Me Toos or something really soft and flexible would be your best bet. They have to form to your foot!

I have found that my flats need to be soft like that in order to hug my foot in a flattering way! Most of the Me Toos are great at this and I know you can find them at discount stores for less!

Marianna - Thank you for the suggestions. I actually really like that Report pair in grey. I think in general people with bony feet have an easier go with flats but these options might give my foot that same flattering illusion so thanks!

Glad Marianna was able to inspire you, agrace! I think wide feet look great in flats! And if it’s any consolation, I have boney feet and they are hard to fit full stop. Most shoes rub and catch my bones and it’s really uncomfortable, so you are not alone in battling to find shoes :0)

Check out the MeToo Mission style - slightly pointy toe (found at Marshalls recently) but has gathering around sides so does not appear to gap. I have narrow heels and wider front of foot so I am always looking for a balance.

Oooh, Chris - I love the sound of that! I love a pointy or blunt edged, tapered toe. The gathering around the sides sound fabulous too. I will definetly check these out...and hopefully they will be at my local Marshalls!

Angie, I will forever contend that thin bony feet look elegant! I always envy those of you with those little delicate bony feet. I have big, wide as plank feet that are flat and hard to fit!

I'm with Angie. My feet are wide, not because they are fleshy but because my bones are splayed, hence having a wide forefoot and narrow heel. Most shoes rub horrendously because my bones stick out so much. It's NOT elegant or delicate.

Maya - I guess the grass is greener on the other side! I always see people with bony feet as having more elegant looking feet, particularly in flats. My feet look are just very square and slab like LOL. maybe we should all go back to the days where a cobbler visited your house and custom made your shoes!

Maybe it's elegant for some people, but you can always tell where my shoes are rubbing me because you'll find scabs, scars, and peeled skin. It's pretty gross...and painful!

Some of my flats gape slightly at the edges for a moment during my stride. I've decided not to worry about it, though - they look fine the rest of the time. Do yours gape all the time or just during some moments?

Also, your feet don't look nearly as wide to other people as they look to you....
