How do you search on line ?

I was looking for some ankle strap covered toe sandals ( yes a lot of criteria !) on Zappos and was wondering how you all search.
I usually start off in a haphazard way and waste a ton of time getting up to only page 40 of 74 lol.
Then I go back and put in what I want such as heel height and size. I was thinking that it would be quicker to search by brands I like but I am afraid of missing out on something that isn't one of my preferred brands, leave no stone unturned as Angie would say !
What's your strategy ?

It helps to have more specific criteria. Heel height is a big limiter for me, so that tends to narrow things down right off the bat. Color is my other big criteria. I'd rather do multiple searches in various colors than have to wade through pages of black to get to the few interesting ones. I will also check particular styles; it helps me avoid things like boots or wedges or whatever is definitely inapplicable.

On Zappos, I use heel height, size, width, and material. Width can be deceiving, though, since there are many B shoes that are C in width, and C shoes that are B in width.

Although the "no stone unturned" policy is admirable, I've bled and blistered my way through enough brands to remain committed to the few that work.

On Zappos, I search for size (7.5, wide and D because wide doesn't always mean D), heel height, leather, usually the brand but not always. It's slim pickings by the time the wide width is factored into the equation.

for something that specific, I wouldn't start my search with Zappos, i'd do a general goggle search to see up images and stores showed up. and i'd probably do a polyvore search, I find these gives me a broader selection, and because its visual, I can immediately see if I need to refine my search terms.

I go by category and add some filters... but not too many. But I still lay waste to hours and hours...

My strategy is to waste time. :). Really, I usually search by style and color because that is what I'm looking for. Then I will filter by heel height. Whatever I do, I still get lost in the search for hours.

Like you, I don't like to miss anything either...but I also don't want to fall for a shoe that isn't available in my size...so I start with the broadest criteria like size and heel height because I am not going to wear anything higher than like 2 inches. If I haven't found anything or am wasting a ton of time, I will make narrow my criteria to what I am looking for specifically. I actually DO like to browse though, so I don't really think of it as a waste of time if I've got the time to spend.

I use polyvore quite a bit to search. It seems to narrow items into specific categories well.

I'm almost always looking for a specific color (or three possible colors) of something, and that tends to narrow the results (along with size and heel height, subcategory of shoe, etc.) Of course that assumes you aren't looking for a black shoe, then you still have to wade through many pages.

I get frustrated with websites that don't have all the filters (especially color) in their clearance section. It's also frustrating that you almost always have to separately search clearance to have those hits come up.
