How do you manage your time on YLF?

Since I've become a member of YLF, I've spent more time here. Whereas I used to just read posts, I now comment, which is more time consuming. Do you sit down once a day and go through posts and comment, or do you check in more frequently? Have you found a way to increase your efficiency?

Oh boy. I live here when I'm out of work in FL, but do fly by's when working 2 jobs in CA. I just do what I can when I can. No pressure.

Great question! I love browsing and reading,, but since joining have noticed replying and posting involves much more time! I would love to hear some of the veterans share how they avoid full on YLF obsession!

I read Angie's blog posts of the day (5-7 minutes); and then cruise the forums.

I just remind myself when I find I spend too much time on here that the forums will always be here and I can check in another time.

i usually check in the morning while drinking my coffee. (its a great way to start the day). often this is before angie's post for the day has gone up. if i have time at work, i'll try to drop in in the morning,and read her posts, and maybe check the forum. but i usually catch up again while i eat lunch (like now). if there was something that really caught my eye, i'll try to check in again after dinner. i like to spend some time catching up on sunday afternoons as well.

It comes in phases. Sometimes I read the blog only and comment whenever I can, sometimes I read the forum only, sometimes I have time to participate on the forum, but sometimes I simply have to stay away as it is all so pretty to look at or interesting and wise to read about, but there is life off-line that needs to be taken care of... I cannot say I found the right way yet, but this is partly due to changing life schedules and circumstances which don't allow set time of the day when I can be here or not. And it does not help that I don't type fast or that I can end up writing then editing things.

I will certainly watch this thread for wise tips about achieving the balanced way of being around.

But in all seriousness, it's a "when I can, I come" kind of thing for me. I usually start the working morning with Angie's blog posts and a couple of quick forum replies. Then I go off and work. I come back when I need a short break from work. And again a bit after lunch (which is now for me). And sometimes I pop in during the evening, too. It just depends on the day and what my duties are.

Since I work from home, I think the forum takes the place of a kaffeeklatch with co-workers for me. I get to "see" others and chat about fun stuff. I must say the community here is more fun than at most workplaces!

I also take some total breaks now and again -- just to concentrate on other stuff.

What Suz said. I don't actually manage my time, just do little snippets as I have time during the day. It's a fun break from everything else.

Like Suz, I take short breaks. I try to check blog posts first and comment on them. Then I will check the forum and try to comment on those posts. I always try to comment because I know when I post my own threads, I really appreciate getting feedback. How long I spend a day depends on how much "me time" I have that day.

Haha. I work in a lab, set my own schedule most of the time, and do not have any limits on my internet browsing at work. That means that sometimes I'm on here all day, particularly on days where my lab work consists of lots of computer work (But other days I have a lot of experiments to do and don't sit down at my computer much.) Lab work also soemtimes involves a lot of short (like 10 minute) breaks while I wait for something to incubate or whatever,so that's a perfect amount of time to cruise the forum, read a post or two, and leave a comment. (Which is what I am doing right now!)

I tend to check the blog post in the morning when I'm having coffee/breakfast, then I comment if I have time (or I do that when I get to work). I might also scan the forums in the morning too.

If I take WIW photos, I do them in the morning right before I leave the house. I sometimes take the camera to work and download my photos/post my WIW from work. Other times I do it when I get home in the evening.

Marmee, as another new member, I'm experiencing what you describe. Posting and commenting require more time than I sometimes have. I've initiated posts just a few times knowing that I have to keep an eye on replies and follow up. I comment when I think I can contribute something, but on many posts, other replies already express my feelings/opinions, and I feel they are much more eloquent than I could be, so I refrain from duplicating the comment. I will try to comment more, though, even if in a short sentence, as I really want to be seen as a participating and interested member.

Well, I always read the daily blog posts and comment on those at the very least. Then I just do what time will allow. I've been snowed under with my sewing orders lately so my participation has been very sporadic lately. When work is manageable I tend to answer a few posts first thing, a few at lunchtime and some in the evening. Occasionally I just feel all fashioned out, lol, so I just have a couple of days break. I don't suppose the sky will fall in if I lapse for a while

PS - I check on YLF at lunch time and in the evening. Sometimes I have time to read Angie's blogpost during breakfast.

I usually check in the morning on my phone when I am getting ready for work. Then when I get to work and have my first work cuppa, I post on some threads and post a WIW usually.

Then I just check in as I have time throughout the day. Sometimes that isn't until I get home from work, othertimes I can zoom in on a few responses. I have been busier lately and haven't had as much time to contribute, but also the forum has exploded in the last year I have been here.

I check throughout the day from work (shhhhh). I don't work in a really social environment so I'm kind of like suz that I get my "coffee breaks" online. I rarely check from home because I have a much tougher boss there (DD).

When I'm on call I sometimes hide and check my YLF as a break from all the chaos around me. It's nice to "worry" about pretty clothes as opposed to think about work for a few minutes.

Eh, well, give me the time and I will be here all day. I just love thinking about fashion. It's my default topic.

But I do try to keep things semi in control. Or pretend to. I most often don't read or post on weekends. Sometimes, when pressed for time, I will only look at the first page. Or sometimes, I will only look at threads that were just started (less than 10 replies). And maybe tho it's kind of a waste of space, sometimes I just *dive bomb* with *love its!* without exegesis.

What can I say? *Take me as I am.* Hehe.

Also, The Wall view is really super great for fly-overs.

Thank you all for your responses! I think I mostly struggle with writer's block...finding the right words and writing the just right response. I want to contribute, but I feel like I don't have anything original to say, and then I waste time trying to write something helpful and pithy.

I joined YLF so that I could see the pictures, but I've decided that it's an opportunity for me to work on my quick writing skills.

Newbie here too. I was grounded in October for a few weeks with vertigo and while I waited for the world to stop spinning I spent days on end at home and that's when I found YLF. I'm a super early rise 4 am (I know I know) so that's when I have me time and I love to just cruise around and seeing what's happening. I love the positive vibes and the hugely supportive nature of this group of fabulous people. Thank you all for being who you are.

I have to be pretty disciplined because I work in front of my computer and it would be very easy to do no work at all! I spend a lot of time in the morning as I drink my coffee and wake up and then don't let myself come back until I have finished the bulk of my day's errands and work and am in the kid zone.

Another newbie here. I've been lurking and reading Angie's blog each morning since I found this site. I usually finish the day by checking out the forum posts. I, like so many others, signed up so I could continue to see the photos and learn from the wonderful people on this blog.

I read through posts every day, usually during breaks over coffee. I love seeing what everyone is wearing I just don't always have time to comment/compliment as much as I would like.

When I check in, I limit myself to reading the first page and maybe the first few items on the second page. Lately I check a few times a day, but usually only before and after work (I work part-time). Like right now, I need to start working! Gotta go...

Newbie here who didn't lurk before joining, so now I'm doing it backwards and realizing there's a lot of excellent material to catch up on so that I can participate in the forums meaningfully. Trying to budget more of my time here to reading clusters of blog posts on topics where I need specific help or am just blatantly unaware.

A few threads I've started received wonderfully thoughtful responses, and it's taking me longer than I'd like to write replies. Language processing still saps energy, and I haven't yet found a way to manage that.
