How do we feel about skinny cords / cord leggings?

Piperlime sent me an email today featuring skinny cords and looks featuring them and I am deeply intrigued. I am really digging the looks they've put together (picture below). I know there's been some debate over the casual nature of cords and am wondering if the "skinny"-ness smartens them up a bit. And if a curvy, short, hourglass can pull off say something like dark grey skinny cords?

I'm thinking if you can pull off skinnies you can pull off skinny cords? I'm fine with cords anyway but I think your best bet is to give them a go x

Macys had corddings??? (cord leggings). If they are warm as regular cords, I think they would be great for being out and about in serious blizzard weather (which we had PLENTY of last year). Personally, I'm not sure how much other use I would get out of them.

I got the same email from Piperlime. I have some skinny cords from JCrew from 2 years ago. I did not wear them at all last year. Actually thinking of selling them.

annagybe, why didn't you wear them? Do you like to wear other types of leggings or jean leggings? Or are you not so much into the leggings look in general after buying these J Crew ones?

I wonder if they make that rubbing sound too, that regular cords can make? So many questions!

Straight-leg chords are on my list of Fall items to look for! I am a pair/hourglass and I would totally rock them with a long bf cardi or tunic. I say give them a try. Grey sounds fab.

I got into the habit of wearing skinny jeans and jeggings with boots over the winter. One pair of the skinny cords (they're jeans style) is bright orange and the other is hot pink. Hard to work with. I do have a pair of white ones I may bust out when it gets cooler. I think I've also lost weight since I bought them so they might not fit so well.

Before I discovered ponte knit pants, cords were my go-to winter pant. I know that Angie is not a fan of corduroy in general, but I am always drawn to the warmth factor. I like the way they styled in in that picture. I think if you sort of mix and match the dressiness (ie the casual boots and cords with a dressy top half- lace, sequins and what not)- it looks funky in a good way. Vani- if you do a similar color pant/footwear (gray cords with black or gray boots/booties) I think it will work just fine for you. I would consider cordings for winter as an alternative to ponte knit pants with ,my tunics.

Hi there... im loving the new design by the way... i think corduroy, in general, does not flatter me at all. I will have to say that the look is a no for me.

I do like cords (even though I haven't worn them in several years) for casual outfits. I haven't seen corddings (nice, Mel!) out yet, but I think they would look best tucked into knee-high or OTK boots, not the ankle boots shown on the model in the ad.

I recently took a 5+ year old pair of brown boot cut cords and skinnied them. They also were fading to a gray in some spots, so I dyed them to have a burnt orange undertone instead. It's been far too hot here to wear them, but when I get home I'll take a picture of them with boots and see what you all think! I'm really excited to have pants that aren't jeans that I can wear tucked into my boots!

Are these true skinny cords, or more like a crushed cut velvet legging to look like a cord? I saw several of those out recently - Hue & others. I'm having a tough time as I had a pair in the late '80's/early '90's but I said the same thing with leggings & ended up in ponte knit pants & jeggings/leans last winter for casual weekend wear also so who knows...

I have always worn and liked cords, but then I can get away with casual pretty much all the time. I am a hunt for a pair of skinny cream cords to replace my old ones that were too big.

I have yet to see the leggings but I do have two pairs of skinny cords (J Crew toothpick) from last fall that I wore quite a bit in the fall. I actually did not wear them all that much in the winter because even though they were quite slim fit, they did not stay very smooth & flat when I tried tucking them into boots. Maybe cord leggings would solve that issue???

I love skinny cords but have avoided them for decades because cords used to stretch out and loose shape so quickly. I wonder with the wonder product Lycra 2% has changed that.:)

I have a pair of black skinny cords (purchased last winter) that I like a lot. They seem to go with lots of different looks, and they are cozy. I washed them a bunch and they have stayed a true black.

Louise, I'm just a little concerned about the whaling drawing attention to my ample bottom and thighs The whaling always seemed a to have some sheen on all the cords I've owned, even darker colored ones.

Khris, I had an inkling you would have some affection for cords I'm thinking the same - dark cord-ings, dark boots, tunic/long shirts. Since I've been unsuccessful in finding ponte knit pants, maybe cord skinnies are the answer this fall.

annagybe, I'm sure you could rustle up some cool (warm?) outfits for us. Please post pictures when you do!

shell, I agree. Though I think shorter boots + cord skinnies + over-sized shirt/long tunic/ short dress would work as well.

Ok, here are pictures as promised. I put these on kinda quickly and didn't tuck the left leg into the boot as well as I should have, so pretend it's not quite as bunchy at the knee.

I like the idea in theory. I have two pairs of skinny pants out of a velour-like material that I like a lot. They are like cords without the whaling (sp?). They both have some lycra and no bagging issues.

Oh JG the cord leggings I saw were Hue. I didn't look at them that carefully so they could have been the crushed velvet you were talking about. Not sure.

Vani, I like cords in small doses, and think corduroy pants work well for casual outfits (good for casual MOTG style). I can see cord skinnies working the way Khris and others have described. Are you going to try them?

With the Lycra/Spandex content hopefully getting rid of any bagging issues, I think that the corduroy ribbing on these cord leggings can add some interesting texture to an outfit, and will look great tucked into boots.
