In January 2011 we relocated from Melbourne to Bendigo where the only people we knew were my husband's parents. At that time I started spending more time on the internet with respect to fashion and one evening I was googling something fashion related (I wish I could remember what it was) and YLF came up in the search results and the rest is history lol. I couldn't believe what I had found. Someone (Angie) that I could relate to, and a community of beautiful, respectful, kind and like minded women. And 5 years on this is still one of my most favourite ways to spend my time. YLF is a very important part of my world.

Someone in my sewing group recommended it!

I can't remember...I think I was google searching whether or not short women should wear ankle strap sandals?

I just checked. It has been five years and a month for me. Holy moly!

It's amazing how many of us have found ourselves here by chance. I'm one of those, too. I've always been interested the hows and whys of of style, and was making yet another search for articles on capsules - I'm a capsule and colour junkie. That was probably four years ago, although I only signed up just over a year ago.
As others have said, it's the warmth and sense of community that keeps me coming back.
The fact that so many have stayed around for years speaks volumes for YLF.

Cannot really remember exactly(2007-2008) but think the first post I stumbled across was about some sewing tips for bossing the ill fitting clothes, or so. There was a great science in that post which stroke to me the writer is as picky as I am:-) but on top of all she really knows her job, style wise. Oh, and I canb remember how exciting it was when she finally revealed herself on the blog!
I loved to come back each day and eventually got hooked. Lurking for more than a year before posting my first wiw's.
I agree, my picties are always weirdly slanted in a mirror but on top of all I used a big flash instead of my face for privacy reasons and so gotten some innocent advice how to shut the falsh down for getting a better pictie, LOL. Those were the great times, still love the blogs I discovered back then!:-).

Was reading the blog before the forum started. Pretty sure I found a link or mention in the blog Space Between My Peers.

Oh, how fun! For me it started in 2009. I remember being annoyed with shopping, not really knowing what worked for my figure and what to wear to feel "me" and looking good. I wanted to try a personal shopper but that was too expensive (was a student at the time), but with the help of google I found this site, wohoo!

Went through most of my closet and the outfits I had at the time and got much feedback which really helped me sort out which kinds of clothes and colours to look for and how to match them, at least it was a start for me to start thinking differently!

I moved from my home in Sweden to London that year and had much help and so much fun with YLF for some time, but eventually I sort of drifted away, using it less and less... but always keeping it in the back of my mind, and now this year I came back! Not as active now as before but I still appreciate the forum sooo much.

I had to check and see that I have been a member for two years. I don't quite remember how I stumbled upon YLF, but I had tried other forums only to find YLF is the best in terms of online relationships. We are helpful and respectful of each other. We can cry and laugh together, and offer support when needed. I think that is great in light of that most of us are strangers to one another. YLF is an extended family.

I think I came across YLF the blog maybe around 2009-ish (I know Angie had already started showing her face), when I was reading a lot of fashion blogs, and it was linked by one or another. I really liked that Angie had a lot of content about how to wear and buy trends, rather than just showing them as WIWs.

At some point I discovered the forums as well, where I lurked for a while until I decided that there were a lot of really nice people that I wanted to get to know better! Plus all my friends who were interested in shopping/style had moved away so I had no IRL friends to chat with about fashion. That was around 5 years ago. (I remember seeing the 5 year birthday video around when I first starting hanging out here and it was one of the things that really made me think that this forum was special.)

ETA: I first started posting WIWs for one of the Picture Perfect Challenges. I think the outfit challenges are a perfect way to get into the whole WIW thing.

Great thread!

I'm not sure exactly. What I remember is my husband bought me an iPad for Mother's Day in 2013. I started researching everything and anything online. In one of my google searches I must have come across YLF. I read Angie's posts voraciously and later lurked on the forum. It was almost a year later when I signed up - March 2014 - on a 2-week work leave from stress/health issues. YLF was a really nice distraction during that time. I still mostly lurk - sometimes coming out to respond to someone's post or very occasionally post myself. I find it very uplifting to read how people's personalities seemingly come through so clearly in their writing. I'm also awed by how eloquently people here express themselves.

My story is so much like Sveta's. In 2010-11 we did a massive home renovation. I had breakfast at a technology conference with a friend from high school days in PIttsburgh and his partner, and we talked about paint colors, home design etc. Tom recommended the blog Colour Me Happy. The day I logged on was Maria's shopping report, and there were photos of Angie in the Frye slouch boots. I thought, "who IS that gorgeous woman?" and "those boots are to die for!" And the rest is history.

I love blogging and this is such an interesting thread to have us wind back through the social media and searches that brought us to YLF and each other. This would not have been possible even 15 years ago.

Votre réponI came across it on the internet I immediately love this quote.
I'm glad I can put my outfits online and have your opinion
thanks againse

I found YLF a little over five years ago -- I actually remember reading it for the first time curled up in our loft at home during a very wintry day. I think it was a link from alreadypretty -- I had just discovered the whole world of style blogs and was checking out everything, but this was the site that kept bringing me back.

I found YLF during a bit of a turning point phase for me. I was getting over losing my mother, starting to tackle some personal issues, and also doing some things that took me out of my comfort zone (I had just finished a 2.5 month solo cross-country camping trip, which was fantastic!). I'd been self-employed for quite a few years and had fallen into a uniform of bootcut jeans and tees. It's not really a coincidence that my participation here launched around the same time that I started to take up running (and later biking), and doing more to take care of myself.
