How did you arrive at YLF?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but thought there would be no harm in asking again... how did you first discover YLF?

I got here in 2013 when I was going on job interviews and wasn't sure if I should tuck in my button-up shirt collar inside or outside of my suit blazer. That search brought me here. I came expecting to find a how-to guide, and instead found people who helped me troubleshoot my clothing dilemmas quickly, plus a blog full of inspiration that helped me update my wardrobe while keeping true to my style.

I got hooked on Angie’s Mother On The Go formulas. I was living in a confused-style-hinterland and actually, was researching the concept of personal branding...

I think I heard about it from a friend on Facebook. I read just the blog for a long time before joining and diving into the forums. I consider YLF to be such a blessing.

I was reading Maria Killam’s blog on color and she mentioned how Angie had helped her with her style. Maria provided a link to YLF and I have been visiting ever since. For quite a long while I read the blog and occasionally posted a comment. I have been more active in the forum lately and find myself learning so much from everyone here.

I'm about 4 years in , I think, and found Angie quite by accident when a photo of her popped up somewhere on the internet. Her hair of course caught my eye When I started reading the blog, I realized that this could be a good place to help me pull my wardrobe together in a more efficient and effective way. I used to have a ton of clothes, and was all over the place in terms of a "look". I believe I've come a long way......!

For quite a while, the only style blog I read was Already Pretty. This was back in 2014, right after DS was born. That was a great blog, and is still a wonderful body-positive style resource. She linked to YLF pretty often, and that's how I ended up over here.

I was searching for professional outfit inspiration that featured footwear that did not kill my feet, since I was not tolerating very high heels (3 to 4 inches) for everyday wear any more. I landed on ylf and found what I was looking for and a lot more. I have learned a lot from Angie and Forum members, and I can't thank Angie, Greg, and Inge enough from the wonderful community they have built.

I had foot surgery and needed to replace all my shoes. While I was keeping my foot elevated, I started researching capsule wardrobes for travel, and something good linked here.

From a link on Maria Killam's Colour Me Happy blog. Once I started reading I was hooked. Angie gave so generously of her advice in the blog, and her passion for style and fashion, and how it affects not just the way we look but the way we feel and how we present ourselves to the world gave me a lot to think about. You Look Fab rekindled my love of fashion, which had lain dormant for about 10 years. YLF is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you Angie.

I was surfing the net a couple years ago for inspiration on how to wear short blonde hair with glasses, when Angie's photos popped up. (I actually took a couple of them to my hairdresser). I was quite drawn to her outfits in those photos as well, they were right up my alley and to my taste. A little more googling, found the blog and have been following ever since.

I discovered it just surfing the internet for style blogs. YLF and Extra Petite are pretty much the only ones I follow now, because I find the advice to be actually useful (and not just "oh look how cute my clothes are"), and the frequent posting keeps me excited for more.

I learned about it 8 years ago from a mom board I frequented. I lurked for awhile and then got really into it for awhile (attending meet ups are the best!) and have been sort of a ghost for awhile. It's still the only place online I come for up to date real fashion information. I love the positivity and full inclusion.

I was looking around for reviews and tips on tackling Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale and YLF turned up in a search. I lurked every now and then for a couple years before joining.

What a fabulous thread! I can't even remember the exact chain of circumstances that led me here but I was ready for a big style renewal because I'd just lost 35 pounds and had nothing to wear! I had found a few blogs like the late lamented Academchic and Already Pretty and maybe InsideOut Style but I think I found Angie by searching for "jeans for women over 40" or something like that. I started digging into the blog archives and was immediately hooked by her fab short haircut, practical advice, and unique mix of high-low style.

It took me a while to figure out the forum. I couldn't really understand it at all at first. It was a post by Michelle and the incredibly thoughtful and useful responses that got me hooked. I realized that this was a uniquely kind and helpful place on the internet, that I could learn a lot here from the members and from Angie, who gives so generously of herself. I wanted to contribute to the community, and I've been here ever since.

I'm discovering lots of further tips in this thread--unlike many of you, I hadn't followed any style blogs before coming here. I might check some of those out but I doubt that any of them will keep me coming back as YLF does

Suz, it also took me a while to figure out certain things about the forum--for example, that we could click on the bar of reactions below each post to give each member an appreciation token. (I must have seemed rude...) It's such a unique and lovely feature.

And I continue to be fascinated by everyone's stories!

I was seaching for how to store your cashmere sweaters and voila this site popped up. I am finding there is so much to learn here, just everything you'd want and need to know about our wardrobes! I enjoy the pics too of outfits~ and ideas about how to wear our clothes.

Found it around 2008, through Already Pretty. I was living in The Bronx & doing my externship at a hospital there.
Moved to Seattle, and lurked for a year.
Then I started posting.

I can't remember what I was researching...I want to say that it had something to do with how to wear a belt properly. I don't remember why I was having an issue with belts, but I was! A Google search landed me on Angie's blog. I remember being surprised that someone actually cared enough about belts to write articles about the subject!

Thanks to the helpful article suggestions that would pop up each time you clicked on a new article, I was able to spend a lot of time reading on the site. I found Angie's articles very well thought-out and well written, and she clearly wasn't trying to sell anything but just enjoyed fashion.

I think I started popping in at the forum every now and then to see what was going on, and that became more frequent, and I think after about a year I decided to join.

Discovered YLF a very long time ago - before Angie has revealed a picture of herself, before there was a forum. My twin daughters were about two and I finally had a chance to look up and consider how I wanted to dress. I stumbled upon YLF in my internet research (because for me everything starts with internet research), was attracted to the green background (matched my upstairs wall) and became hooked. Twin daughters are about to turn 13 to give you a sense of how long ago that was.

It must have been a Google search result that brought me here. I lurked for a little over a year, then a signed up after getting tired of not being able to see pictures. I'm glad I did, and only wish I had done it sooner

I discovered Gretje’s blog No fear of fashion, which I really like. There, Gretje lists the blogs she follows herself. I looked at all of them and i fell in love with YLF. So, here I am ☺️
Discovered YLF about two moths ago, wish I have found it much sooner.

Almost exactly 7 years ago, as I recall. I had just discovered fashion and style blogs and was coming out of a bit of a personal funk. I was taking on some new personal and professional challenges (started running, started working from a studio I rent outside of home for the first time rather than only working from home), and it seemed like a good time to explore upping my personal style game. There has been a lot of experimentation since, but I’ve settled in and feel good about my style now. Angie and Greg and all the wonderful participants here made this a welcoming place to learn and play.

About 4 years ago I discovered YLF through Facebook. I read Angie's blog and signed up for the forum immediately. I posted my first WIW soon after signing up (cropped wide legged pants). We were in Florida.

Oh, I remember well. I searched "Closet organization" on google and landed on YLF. That was in 2007 or 2008. Since then my closet has improved a bit (my messy tendencies are hopeless) but I have learnt a lot, had a lot of fun and "met" a lot of wonderful people !
