How dated will this coat be?

This is from the last season. It doesn't strike me as horribly trendy, because it has this vintage look (to my untrained eye). That said, is this something that could be worn for years to come without looking horribly dated?

The cut is so classic I doubt it would date. The lace is a nice treatment that doesn't seem particularly trendy so much as unique.

I agree with Janet. I have a statement trench with embroidery, and I love it, but find it difficult to wear except with particular accompaniments -- so I really have to make a concerted effort to wear it. It's not a 'goes with everything' kind of thing in my experience because the texture reads as less casual or neutral.

Yours looks retro in a 70's way a bit because of the embroidery color and pattern, but in a modern classic shape. I'd try it on with various outfits to estimate if you would be able to get the wear you wanted out of it per year. It could look really great with the right outfits, but maybe not with all outfits.

I don't think it would get dated because of the classic style. The lace makes it interesting to me but I agree it would have to be with the right outfits which could limit it somewhat.

I think it is a really amazing coat! I don't think it will date because of the classic style. I do think it's a coat you wouldn't wear a lot in one season but when you had an opportunity to wear it, you'd be so glad to have it. Where is it from?

I think it is more a statement piece than a trendy piece. The style is quite classic. I don't see it as dating quickly but, like any statement piece, you might tire of it eventually.

I think it's a classic that will have longevity. The trench style is a classic one--nothing trendy about the cut of this one--and over lace waxes and wanes in popularity, but it tends to stay around.

From the product photo, I wasn't loving it but the picture of you wearing it is amazing. Love that maximal texture. Looks more apocalyptic than goody goody, if I'm expressing myself correctly. This is an incredible garment.

It is really beautiful and I would suggest you could wear this for long time. It stands apart from trend, is very classic and the lace is such a statement.

This is definitely a statement piece. It won't date, but I do think pieces like this need to reflect the personality of the wearer. If you feel like it represents your personal style, then I think it's a definite win!

Glad to hear that's a classic with a nice twist.

Angie, I didn't think of the snagging issue, although I wondered if wearing a belt would cause the lining to pill or wear out. The lining is stretch silk. This would be an everyday coat for me, a way of adding a feminine touch to my usual somewhat tomboyish denim outfits.

Lisa, guilty on the Buberry charge. I'm a shameless BB fan girl not only because of their designs, but because their trenches can nicely accommodate my narrow but proportionally large shoulders and upper arms, which have outgrown J. Crew, Danier, etc.

What Beth said. I mean, I wouldn't get it just because its Burberry.
I actually think it looks a little heavy in the lace ( which in one way is a good thing) and I probably would not have rendered that fabric in a snugly belted trench silhouette. And yet, perhaps that is the inventive aspect of its appeal- counterintuitive and all that.
So I think if it's really YOU and expresses something in your style and with other things in your wardrobe, then go for it. I just say this because I've had "imaginary -style goggles" as well as other goggles when faced with either sales, limited- time opportunities and such.

I think this looks great on you - the fit is perfect. I have a Burberry trench that has no signs of wear despite being in regular rotation in cooler month. I vote yes to this piece and love that you will wear it with denim regularly.

What a fab coat! I, too, love your idea of wearing it with jeans. I really don't know about the dating question. Lace is having a moment right now, to be sure. On the other hand, the coat is a Burberry, and they are classics.

so.....i'm going to be the outlier. it's a lovely coat, and it is a very classic cut, so it wouldn't really date....but if you hang out with the "fashion crowd', i feel like this will have a date, as its pretty recognizable. (now the people i hang with would never recognize it, but i don't know the crowd you run with)
