I don't mean the receptacle which holds your clothes (although we can talk about that too, if you like). I mean, how extensive a collection of clothes do you have?
One of my favourite bloggers, Sheila Ephemera http://sheilaephemera.blogspot.co.uk/ has been doing a 30 for 30 challenge for a year with a whole new wardrobe capsule every month. It's great fun to read, but got me thinking that I couldn't do one myself as I just don't have enough clothes! I remember Sheila writing somewhere that she has 88 pairs of shoes and over 400 items of clothing.
Now, those numbers would be excessive for me, but perhaps not necessarily for everyone. So, I ask you all:
a) how many clothes (roughly) do you own?
b) how many would you like to own?
I'll start the ball rolling - this is an off the top of my head guesstimate, but probably fairly accurate. It's unlike me to forget about an item at the back of my wardrobe, simply because there's not much space for clothes to hide.
a) - (I'm going to break it down into sections because I'm anal that way, but you don't have to)
8 Autumn/Winter tops for work
4 A/W skirts for work
6 A/W tops for play
2 A/W skirts for play
12 Spring/Summer tops for work
4 S/S skirts for work
1 S/S top for play
1 S/S skirt for play
1 waistcoat
1 shorts
5 trousers
8 dresses
1 jacket
2 coats.
I make that 56 items. Jeebus, no wonder I'm having trouble putting outfits together. My answer for b) would be 100. That'd give me double what I have now. Plus, I read someone somewhere who wrote that 100 items is an optimal number and that 80% of your wardrobe should be tops/toppers/dresses. 100 seems a nice round figure to aim for.
I'd guess my wardrobe is on the small side, but I really don't have anything to compare it to. So, over to you!
