Houndstooth / Pied-De-Poule style
This autumn in The Netherlands houndstooth and pied-de-poule style seem a fringe trend (f.e. Zara, Max Mara Weekend, Massimu Dutti a.o.). Nice refreshing style in black/white or -cream. Are you in other parts of our world experiencing this? Is pied-de-poule known to you?

I know houndstooth, and it seems a perennial favorite and a true classic. I haven't heard of pied-de-poule--is it the same pattern? I would translate it as "chicken foot"--is that correct? Pretty funny!

I am confused about similarity. Chicken-foot is the correct translation, yes. Any one out there who can inform about the difference?

Ohhh, I know what chicken foot is--it's what I would call "herringbone." (That's what I'm guessing anyway.) One of my personal favorites--I refer herringbone to houndstooth myself, though I enjoy admiring houndstooth on others.

Aha! I don't see any difference between houndstooth and pied-de-poule, then. Two words for the same thing.

I Googled words and images and it seems agreed that houndstooth is the English name for pied-de-poule. I like the first image with the striped shirt--that's pattern mixing I can handle.

Per wikipedia, pied de poule = houndstooth. I like houndstooth, I agree that it's a classic. I also like your example where it's combined with stripes. I had a chocolate brown and cream houndstooth skirt back in the 70s.

I understand pied-de-poule because of its similarity to the german denomination Hahnentritt for a houndstooth pattern. Always thought theme all being just regional different namings for one and the same pattern.

How interesting that these textiles with diagonal weaves were all related to and named for animals: hounds teeth, chicken feet, and herring bones. I wonder if there are more names like that?

Houndstooth and herringbone are my absolute favorites (as shown by Firecracker). They are timeless and classy all the way. I buy them out of love.
