Hosiery with these Sandals: Yay or Nay?

What kind of hosiery, if any, would you wear with these dark snakeskin sandals (really more of a peep toe shoe or sandal hybrid)? I live in the northeast and am looking to maximize the wear-ability of these sandals if possible given the weather conditions (no snow or freezing temps), without looking off season. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I second Glory, I wouldn't wear hoisery with these. They look like summer sandals to me, because they have completely open toes. I they were real peep toes this would be a different thing.

I'd wear any color except "nude" or "black" or "white." Wooly tights.

I'm going to be contrary to rachylou and the rest Nude or black microfishnets, semi-sheer or opaque black stockings. And I could see them worn with ankle socks, but that's a whole 'nother look entirely

I am not against opaque tights wiht statement sandals, but these just aren't quite there for me. A small platform helps for me to see sandals as okay with tights, or a brighter colour on the sandal to make it clear that the look is intentional. And this is why I could never be a stylist; some things look right to my eye and some don't, and I cannot always articulate why.

Nude micro fishnets would look great with these. I have pale skin, so going hosiery free is not an option after my little tan fades. I think it depends on your skin tone though, if you have darker skin then i would go without hose.

The peep toe is too open for hose to work and look appealing, in my opinion. I don't mind the look of peep toe sandals and hose, but the peep toe needs to be smaller. You also need a covered heel, which these shoes have.

I vote no hose on this particular shoe.

I would wear these (gladly!) with grey or black tights......love them!

Adding: No nude hose!!

I agree 100% with Zap about the toe being too open for hose to look right, vs. a smaller peep toe. I think you'll just notice your toes encased in hose rather than the shoe :).

Thanks so much everyone. I guess if I am nervous about wearing "a look" then it's not for me. A few years ago I wouldn't have approved of this look of hosiery with open toed shoes or sandals, but over the last few years my eye has adjusted and I have started to like it enough to think about trying the look.

Supposedly, strappy sandals over tights is a Fall 2012 trend. I saw these photos below and others like them and thought the Aquatalia shoe might work for fall, especially because they are really more of a shoe than a sandal with their covered heel, high vamp, and cut out areas as opposed to thinner straps.

I appreciate your comments and responses! Thanks again. I am open to hear more of your thoughts on this.

I would still wear them with tights in a minute!

If you aren't all together comfortable with the idea then you would just be second guessing yourself the whole time and that's no fun at all! Can you try them on with tights and and an outfit so everyone can see what it looks like?

... worn with sandals on the model. I like these stockings. Not sure about with the Aquatalia's, but maybe they'd compliment the snakeskin pattern worn with a simple, solid colored dress.

I don't like hosiery with sandals but when I worked a job (ages ago) and had to wear hose I wore them with sandals, otherwise I would never have been able to wear sandals. I also see tights with sandals all the time on the fashion blogs.

I'm really trying to have an open mind here, but I have real trouble with the concept of hose with sandals. I don't even like hose with peep toes, although I know there are many here who disagree with me.

Elizabeth~ I hear you. It's not a look for everyone, it really needs to go with one's whole style in order to pull it off. If I wore it no one would look at me sideways, because they expect me to be funky - trendy - quirky.

I think one reason it's a trend that might be difficult to take root is that in many parts of the world, it's just SO impractical!

We wear open toed and strappy shoes when we want and need our feet to be cool.

We wear hose when we need warmth.

In spring/autumn when temperatures are likely to be best for open shoes with tights, there is also likely to be a lot of rain. Imagine how wet tights feel in the rain. FEH!!!

Looking at those looks, I just imagine my own discomfort should the weather turn. Those celebrities have their own limousines. But I don't. I walk most places. Therefore, I have poison eye for the look in general!

I DO think it can look really cute with a platform sandal and (esp.) ankle socks. Or bright tights with a neutral shoe (I'm less enamoured of the nude shoe with black tights...). But in addition to everything else it is probably often quite leg-shortening. So putting it all together, it won't work well on this particular bod.

Wow, I must be way older than most of you because I distinctly remember the days of yore when if you were a lady, you wore hose with dresses/skirts, no matter the footwear

Most of what looks good in the world of fashion doesn't translate very easily to the real world where the rest of us live. That said, come fall/winter here in Ole Miss we get no snow, it's cold enough for tights, and wearing open toed or strappy shoes with them won't be as difficult as I imagine it in the frozen north. Hmmm.....what would Giovanna do? She's the queen of impractical shoes....LOL!

cciele~ It's true. However most women that I know, whether young or old, HATE pantyhose! They roll down, they create belly bulges, they run (often on day 1), it's another waistband to fuss with, they are hot and sweaty (especially here in the deep south). Tights for me are altogether different. I buy a size up so I can pull them all the way up my torso where they stay put, mine rarely get holes in them, and they come in so many fun colors and patterns.

And don't even get me started on knee high hose.....
