Hose and tights suggestions

One thing I've learned from my SYC so far is that I need to replenish my pitiful hose/tights collection. Right now, I have only three pair:

1 pair dark brown tights
1 pair black tights
1 pair sheer black hose

I wear a lot of neutrals and low-contrast outfits, so I'm looking for hose to complement these looks. Maybe some sheer light-colored neutral or nude hose, or even some colored or patterned hose or tights.

For those who wear hose, what are your favorite/most reliable brands and what colors and patterns do you find most useful?

1. Micro fishnets.
2. Pattern! Black or sheer, the pattern will take any outfit to a whole new level.
3. Color.

I'm working my way through (or wearing out) a substantial amount of plain hose which, once at the end of their lives, will not be replaced in the same quantities with anything plain.

I'm finding I like black patterned hose and have found some nice ones at Express (using coupons ) and Nordstrom Rack (for reasonable Spanx).

I've also ended up with two pair of grey booties, so I found some grey patterened tights like these and I like the resulting legs

This year, I'm preferring a sheerer overall look to the tights. . .maybe that will change come seriously cold weather?

I found grey tights, not too dark and not too light, to be very useful with a variety of skirts and dresses. They provide fairly low contrast with grey or even brown boots. I bought 3 or 4 pairs of grey tights in various shades this season.

So far my best purchases have been a pair of tights from Old Navy and Hue tights bought at TJMax.

My go-to hose these days are Oroblu microfishnets in "sable," which is their nude color. Love, love, love!!

If you are looking for comfort, not control top, my absolute favorite is Commando. They have quite a few colors and patterns, are sold at Nordstrom, and have ZERO waistband digging - something I find to be something of a miracle. Wolford is my favourite brand, their legwear is quite expensive, but they usually have patterns and styles that are always a bit different from other brands. Sometimes you can find them cheaper on eBay.
I also like the quality of Falke, but I'm not sure how expensive these are in the US.

I love a large polka dot (like Anna linked to, Marianna is wearing them in her recent outfit post). I also like the idea of a lace pattern, I don't think microfishnets will go out of style anytime soon either.

If you wear a lot of neutral, low contrast outfits, I think you can go a little "crazier" with patterned hosiery, but I also like simpler styles to echo the outfit. So lots of options;-)

Inge, I've heard that Wolford is a favorite for many, but *ouch* it is pricey. Maybe if I find some on sale....

I really love wearing "sweater tights" (not sure what they're really called?). They are thicker and actually knit; some are cabled, some are plain, some have prints. Their textural contribution is really fun and cozy, I especially like 'em with leather.

Funny you should ask, because I got a couple of new pairs of tights myself today. My personal workhorses when it comes to tights are (a) relatively thick, stretchy gray or black tights ('woolly' tights, except not made of wool, but knit cotton/spandex), and (b) black small-grid fishnets. I tend not to wear tights unless the weather forbids bare legs, and if it's that cold, I generally want the thick tights. Hue makes quite a few good ones, and they're perfect for daytime running around town. Today I got black rib knit and an argyle pattern (because patterned legs are fun with an otherwise plain outfit!). For evening, or for not-quite-so-cold days, the fishnets serve me well. They dress up with pumps, and they dress down with boots.

I recently picked up a bunch of tights at TJ Maxx for $6.99 each. They are sweater tights made of bamboo (so very soft) Can't comment on their wear just yet as I haven't worn them. My go to tights are Spanx two timin because they are soft, comfy, opaque and reversible (grey/black or dk brown/black) and wear forever. I love the look of the patterns, but I end up adjusting them all day so not my favorite thing. I've had great luck with Liz Claiborne brand (Marshalls or TJ Maxx purchases) that have lasted almost 10 years. Hue is decent and has lots of colors and can be found at major dept. stores as well as discounters. I've yet to try microfishnets, but recently bought some Jockey nude hose that are fabulous. (Touch of Toning Control Top/Support Leg - 3 pr for $12) I need these for business and I've yet to find a good pair of camel tights (but I'm looking...)

In my dreams I would have a wardrobe full of Wolford tights, however, until my fairy godmother appears to grant my wishes I tended to find H&M a good source for different tights - I particularly like ones that have a lacy appearance.

For warmth in winter I also like ones that have some wool in them. I know that opaques aren't a favourite on this forum, but I do like them especially with boots.

I tend to look for good quality tights on sale and store them away for the upcoming season.

I enthusiastically second the rec for the Oroblu MFNs. They're surprisingly versatile and wear well.

I love the patterns of Nordies hose but they don't wear we'll at all:(

And BJ, the two-timin tights do come in a black/navy combo. I think Nordies has them.

Like Aida, I prefer sweater tights in the winter. Target has a nice line, called premium sweater tights or something like that. Very cozy and not constricting but they still stay up.
I just ordered some cotton lined wool tights from SockDreams. They were expensive but in this climate I need something warm to keep wearing my skirts and dresses.
