These coats are ones that got away. They are from past years, in styles that sold out quickly. The colors of coats in today’s round-up makes me think I might be able to find one like them, warm magenta-fuchsia colors, with a little flip & flare. If you see any, please lmk!

If Europe is taking after the US in terms of reds, berries and pinks this season, you will find your coat!

Maybe keep stores like Expresso (NL), Claudia Strater (NL), Zalando and Esprit on your radar too. Hobbs and Boden have excellent sales.

This is my current “long” coat. I don’t want to get another of the same length, because it can be awkward with longer skirts & dresses. It’s ok to let the hem hang out, but sometimes I don’t want to. I was thinking (as you see in the finds) of going shorter, but that Monsoon coat is tempting me to go long. Thing is, I’m not sure 41” is long enough.

Does anyone here know about Wolf and Badger? This coat is yet another shape, but like the finds I posted and the opera coat April linked to, it's got a swingy, swoosh bottom part. https://www.wolfandbadger.com/.....-with-butt The description has lots of good buzzwords, but not a ton of info about what the material actually is, or how sustainable it is.

I like that coat at wolf & badger! It seems the most dramatic of the options in your recent post in the thread. How committed are you to berry/magenta? Some of the options here seem more true red to me.

I think wolf & badger is kind of like a department store for small brands. I am tempted whenever I am served one of their ads! But I’ve never ordered from them. Which is to say, I’m not sure they’re a brand per se.

Sarah, I knew even less than I thought I knew. Thanks for explaining. Now I need info on the actual brand, which seems to be a long phrase.

On whether “berry” or not—I think of that as a range of colors that encompasses cherry and certain burgundies, as well as magenta and fuchsia. I am certain that is not a technically correct descriptor, but equally certain that I don’t have the tech knowledge to correctly identify the colors I mean.

Found another coat option! This one challenges the “dressy” idea, but might be just what I need—appropriate for my lifestyle and gives me a boost.

This one is being held for me til Wed. Unlined wool, with 20% polyester. Do I want it? Note that in these pix I’m wearing a baseball jacket & my little crossbody underneath it.

What difference does a lining make? If I had one put in, would it serve the same purpose? The coat is on clearance for €80, so the price still wouldn’t be outrageous.

I can’t find the one I did try on.

As a tailored layer between you and the coat the lining would reduce stretching of the exterior and friction between the exterior and the clothing you wear beneath the coat.

Less distortion of the coat and less damage, like pilling, to your clothing

I’m always a little wary of unlined coats. For one thing, they are too likely to “stick” to knits underneath, causing pilling and also just being a PITA to take off and on. Linings help provide structure and prevent stretching and wear. The construction/quality is often not as good on unlined coats too. I don’t know how costly it is to add a lining to a coat, but if you adore it, it’s an option to investigate, I suppose. But I would keep looking, since your colors are coming into trend more this season. That one actually looks a little big on you.

I don’t usually comment here - but the fit seems off to me . There’s oversized and then there is just too big, which is what I see here. Unlined wool is not going to give you warmth in the depths of winter nor will it hold its’ shape as well. But that’s me stating the obvious - sorry . The colour seems a little dull too .

Not quite right- a lot of volume, esp in back, for the length. Yes to buying a coat with a lining. It's worth checking Etsy for vintage too.

What Suntiger said. Too much volume in the back and on the sides. This could be annoying on your bike. Lovely colour though!
