Have you ever purchased something small for your home (or large, for that matter) that really inspired you and made you feel happy each time you walked past it? Please post them here!

I'll include a few of my own. First is a picture of the dresser in the bedroom with old model ships of my dad's (and a wedding picture of my mum and dad), next is a horn ship that also belonged to my dad, the last two pictures are of the Missoni for Target home items I purchased and still adore.

When my new home was being built, I ordered three 1920's French crystal chandeliers from Europe. I have one in the DR, one in the entryway, and one in the MBR. They cast a gorgeous light pattern on the walls in the evening. I may decide to buy another one for my bathroom.

I also have glasses I love. I bought a set of hand blown wine glasses in Mexico two years ago. Last year, I added water glasses and martini glasses. They are really heavy with swirled white and burgundy and an iridized finish. I might get shot glasses this year.

Echo, your ship is gorgeous and I see you like glass too.

Books, books, and more books! And a few pieces of sculpture and art on the walls. I also collect Blenko glass from the 1960's.

Wow, deb, that fish is amazingly beautiful; I LOVE it! And the glass cabinet is also striking. My sister collects glass, I think it is Fenton, although I am not up on collectible pieces. Thank you for posting pictures!

dianthus: The chandeliers sound gorgeous; I'd love to see them! And I love handmade glass pieces like the glasses you describe. On the cabinet in my bedroom I have an antique carafe and two matching glasses, though I do not know where they are from. I just thought they were pretty, and it is so unusual to find older glassware with no chips or flaws.

I have a set of vintage ceramic custard cups in a gorgeous deep turquoise color (not home so I can't photograph) that I bought before my son was born. I took them to the paint store and had them match the color, then used it to paint the ceiling above his crib.

Now they're in my bedroom, holding tea lights, and they make me happy every time I see them.

I have a few pieces that I especially like. One is a piece of pottery that is locally made. I have it setting on my kitchen counter. My husband got it for me for Christmas one year. I am also showing a photo of the furniture in my foyer. I love the tall mirror but I really cherish the glass plate. It has beautiful shades of purple and turquoise and green. We got it in San Antonio when we went there for our first anniversary so that makes it extra special for me. And finally is a ceramic urn and pitcher. The true color is a pumpkin shade of orange. For a long time my island was empty and I was so pleased when I found this set. And I got it with money my dad gifted to me. I don't see him often so it's nice to be reminded of him.

I love the ships, Echo! Not to mention Missoni and Target (I have to stop myself from buying any more home decor stuff at Target, lol).

I have this ceramic bell, similar to the one below, made by this artist, Michele Quan. Feels very *grey Northern California coast* to me. Modern rustic. I'm very taken with it. I got it at this store, Esqueleto, which is a terrible temptation for me.

Rachy, does the store carry more than what they have on their web site? The site has some really cool stuff. Next time I am that way, I will have to stop.

The store definitely has more than what's on their web, Deb. Very little is on the web. It's definitely a clever little store. If you think you'll go, don't forget to save up for a donut next door. My faves!

Does a cabinet full of vibrant Fiestaware count? Not really decor but it makes me smile every time I open the cabinet.

The terra cotta sheep has been inside since I got him a couple of years ago. He gets a bow 'round his neck at Christmas time. He just relocated to the garden of our new house this week. The spot is the approach to our front door.

The carpenter's plane belonged to my grandfather. When my grandmother died, and their household was being dispersed I was asked if I wanted anything. I asked for grandpa's plane. When I was little, I used to sit in his walkout basement workshop and watch him work. If he was working with the plane, I would augment my own curly hair with the curly wood shaving 'extensions'. The wood is worn smooth and shiny from use. It has 'pride of place' on the mantel.

I love your plane, Carla. My dad was quite the carpenter. I remember planing *stuff* when I was little and no end of help to my dad

I used to love to plane also as a child. My dad did a lot of woodworking and loved all of his tools.

Deb, I have had an on and off love affair with glass of all kinds but have to say that your metal sculpture calls to me.

Susie, that plate is lovely.

Rachy, I love to find small shops that carry interesting things. nice find.

Carla, your sheep is such a conversation piece but I love the story of your grandfather and the plane looks like art.

My chandeliers don't photograph well but here they are:

The first one is from the dining room. Each of the arms is a small horses head with a crystal hanging where the bit would be.
The second one is in the entry. It is a nice size but the angle doesn't do it justice. I think the ceiling is 11' in that area.
Last is the one in the bedroom. It is similar to the entry but less round.
They all cast a gorgeous pattern on the walls at night when the lights are on. It was like an addiction and I almost bought one for my ensuite and then realized I was getting carried away and stopped.
