Well, Angie, my initial reaction to your comment was "Busted!" because when I wrote that, I was thinking two NEW black coats, not two black coats, total. But your comment has made me take stock, and I realized that apart from the past couple of years, I have never had a black winter coat! (Full disclosure: I do have a few for other seasons)
When I figured my colours out threeish years ago, I got rid of a few coats that were all wrong. I have a few left over that aren't great on me, but there is still something about them that is "useful". A dark purple puffer... marshmallow style, total gear, and will likely get purged after this season as I don't think I've worn it in a couple of years. My brown sheepskin, and a charcoal grey car coat that is just so easy to throw on because it has a zipper up the front. This will also likely go now I have the navy J.Crew stadium cloth coat... very similar functions. I also have a deep red puffer that I still wear and like. My ski jacket is white with turquoise and purple. My two most recent coats (apart from this year) are both black... both from Costco. A pea coat (also probably to be replaced with the navy coat, we'll see if I wear it this winter), and a puffer that is "fine" but I've never loved it. So-so fit, so-so warmth, and the dreaded brown fur on the hood. What I've been looking for to supplement all this is a coat that is really WARM.
My new cloth coats are navy, citron and black/white animal print.
Thank you for "forcing" that investigation of my coats... it was good for me! And now I think you see (as do I) why I'm fine with my ultra warm coat being black.
And I am going to make a note somewhere that I have three coats to purge if they don't get worn this year.
