Holiday decor 2021…

Usually I wait until December 1st for holiday decor, but after attending our town’s Christmas parade today, I was inspired to work on the outdoor display. DH hung lights along the roof line, but we won’t plug them in until Wednesday. I made up a wreath for between the garage doors, and arrangements for the planters flanking the walkway. The greenery is from the ravine behind our house, and the garden. It has been a terrific year for the holly. The grapevine wreath, pine cones, and burlap bows have been around since 2014.

Tomorrow I will have the DS’s help me get the holiday decorations out from their hidey-hole under the basement stairs, so that I can sort my stash and decide what to do next.

I was just thinking about you, Carla… because I have to report to you that that man is out there again with a ladder that’s as high as his two-storey house, throwing lights all over his yard. Lol! He hasn’t flipped the switch yet. I live in fear. Lol

@ racheylou - can you sleep at night? We have new neighbours across the street and they do holidays in a big way - a cemetery for Halloween, a herd of brilliantly illuminated deer for December. I’m grateful our bedrooms are at the back of the house!

Beautiful greenery! I put up our star lanterns a couple-three weeks ago. We have them on timers so the white one in the living room comes on about the same time as I get up most mornings, it's kind of a magical start to the day. Since this is our first holiday season in our new place I'm looking forward to figuring out new spots for all the decorations!

Carla, your decorations are pretty. I love seeing everyone's decorations. I don't think we'llbe decorating this year, since we're still unpacking.
It also doesn't feel like the holidays yet. Thanksgiving was 80 degrees!

Same here: bedrooms at the back of the house. The problem is, he attracts tourists. I have to cross a gauntlet of milling strangers… after parking around the block. Argh! But the lights *are* nice on the dog walk.

Today is the first Sunday in Advent, so most people here have their decorations up. We don’t, and I haven’t decided if I want to do any this year. We don’t have a lot of surfaces available, and I’d rather not put holes in the walls, so…. Wall sticker? I’m not sure.

Lol, we have only just begun our decorating, and Hanukkah is tonight! Note the bucket-o-decorations still to be hung in first photo. And now I see we need to clean those windows! Happy Holidays everyone

I love Christmas and Hanukkah decorations. We have a house nearby that puts up both.

We spent the long weekend in the Bay Area. I took sweaters, and could have used short sleeve tops instead, it was so warm! I’m cooking our turkey today. So maybe tomorrow it will feel like Christmas.

I don’t usually start until at least the first of December , but because we hosted our used-to-be-annual kick-off-the-holidays cocktail party last night , I’ve decorated outside and a bit inside . Not full-on Christmas , but more of an early - winter look with greenery and silver/ teal/ white accents inside . Lots of candles and globe lights . I’ll see if I can take some decent photos

We woke up to a real dump of snow this morning, so it's Christmas in the B house for sure! Stockings are hng by the chimney with care We've got a real mix of old, new, kids favourites, fun, and warm ... I think it somehow comes together! It makes us happy anyway

My youngest daughter decorated our tree this morning, she's 12 and simply couldn't wait any longer, it's a real mix of old and new.

I'll probably have to live vicariously this year. All my decorations are at the back of my garage, behind all my mum's and FILs stuff :/

It’s a goal to get my decorating done over Thanksgiving weekend every year. The following week is solid rehearsals and performances for the church Christmas cantata, so I have to seize the opportunity. I am close to done, but the only pictures I have so far are of the new thing I did with the dining room chandelier. I think it turned out well.

We had hoped to get our tree up over the long weekend, but we are doing a big project in the room in question, which until Wednesday looked like the photos below. We are hoping to finish up this week so we can decorate next weekend.

Oh lovely! Nothing here yet, and we will probably do scaled-back this year because we’ll be in NYC for the actual holiday, and we have the den almost completely emptied out because we’re redecorating it completely. New flooring coming soon. The 20+ year old sofa and old 60” TV just left the house today. So no decorating down there this year!

Last year I did it all up — two trees (my mom’s little artificial tree in the den and a real large one in our living/dining room) plus big Christmas garden, and we had lights outside. These are pics from last year.

There are reports that there may be ‘supply issues’ around Christmas trees! If I’m unable to get one (we do have local tree farms) I’ll just do a large bouquet of greenery. I will not be railroaded into getting a tree before I’m ready!

@ Stag - holly over your mirrors or wall art, and a candle in the window doesn’t take up too much space

What a lovely start to the decorating!l started today but as l say ,it’s a process not an event so l am no where near done yet.l have all the outdoor stuff to put out and both trees to go up.Am quite jealous of all those of you who can comfortably attend/hold parties.l thought that we would be there by now but sadly not.

Carla, how do you arrange the greenery in outdoor planters - is there floral foam involved? I have been meaning to attempt hanging baskets outdoors with holly and pine ones this year.

OK! I did our indoor decorating for this year. Pretty minimal this time. Only used the favorite ornaments because I only decorated my mom’s little artificial tree, and I put out the trio of gold-branched lighted trees (three different sizes). I decided to put my bird ornament collection on those trees since the birds are some of my favorites but would take up a lot of room on the little tree. It’s a little different but I like it!

@ elpgal - I re-use the plastic containers that hold flowers during the warm months and they sit atop sandbags that are in the tall planters. Once I place the birch ‘logs’ the containers get filled with dirt to within one inch of the top edge. Then I just stick the branches of greenery into the dirt. Pinecones, ornaments, and bows are affixed to bare wood branches or bamboo sticks and poked into the dirt.

For a hanging planter a block of florist’s foam would probably work better. You can criss-cross tape across the top edges to make a grid, and thread branches of greenery through the grid. This keeps them in place should basket hang in a windy site.

So many joyful photos-thanks for sharing.
Chanukah is almost over and after lightning early because family was together and then a few more nights I’ve misplaced the candles lol. Only a smattering of decorations are up. I might keep going until 1/2 at this rate

Our tree comes today. We’re trying something new this year. I found a company that delivers a live (potted) tree to your home, picking it up again in January to either be transplanted in the forest or rented out again next season.
