Me to the sales assistant at our local BR : there is a short sleeved cotton sweater in tie dye on your website - it’s in navy , pink, olive and tan . Do you have it ?

Sales assistant : Tie Dye was really last season you know .

Me over the top of my mask with a “look” : well they are new on your website .

Assistant dismissively : well we don’t have it then .

Seriously ? Informing your customers that what they are looking for is “ so last season “ ? LOL !

OMG - rude and unprofessional SA - my sympathy.
My two cents - hared "whatever" person/shortage of good SA;
- lazy/unwilling to go extra mile person in general;
- overworked/on the last legs SA loosing it in the end of the day ( sadly happens ).
Just went to BR website - my store is mostly out of stock in those cute sweaters .
Probably - "well we don't have it then" - LOL.

Wow, that is really outrageous! I probably would have burst out laughing, since that tends to be my default reaction to uncomfortable interpersonal interactions. And for her information, tie dye is going strong! From friendly Google:

I just got an email about "our latest top sellers!" from Shopbop and the center of their photo collage is a lovely tie-dye t shirt dress...

Also, I saw that on the BR website and thought it looked lovely.

DH was in Tjmaxx recently and due to ambiguous signage and observed behavior, he asked if masks were required. (Here in MA the state wide Covid restrictions were lifted at end of May but some individual places have required them for longer). the greeter at the door said “they are mandatory but you don’t have to wear them”. Not exactly fashion related but equally hilarious.

We have "masks are not required but recommended for the mall visits ( if you are not fully vaccinated )".
SA still need to wear it for now - our county is the most cautious in the country - lol.

Mandatory but not really. Love it.

I am not giving this SA any credit because : I was in the store about 5 minutes after it opened so she had no time to have reached the end of her rope. Lol. I returned less than 15 mins later with my daughter in tow as I was buying her some earrings, and this same SA gave me the same greeting and sales updates as if she'd never seen me before. Yes, good sales people are hard to find - sigh.

Yes really there is no "last season" for tie dye.

This does make me sad though because disinterested salespeople, seem not so unusual these days, along with understaffed departments, messy and disorganized displays.

It feels like they're not getting the support they need on the floor which makes the store feel unstable and unreliable.

What kills me is that BR is known for not having all items in every store . It’s no big retail secret . When a customer asks for a new piece she found on the website - maybe believe her ?

LOL. Good to know that my new BR sweater is outdated! I’m going to call it vintage, more dignified this way
I had instances when SA told me “We don’t have it in ... size” and I I checked and found the needed size on a rack.

I stopped shopping in BR after the following exchange -
Me - I bought this sweater here yesterday and just checked the website and it’s $45.00 cheaper online
SA - oh well sometimes they do special sales online that we don’t get in the store
Me, (with my phone showing the lower price) - ok, but will you match the online price?
SA - no we can’t do that
Me - then I’ll return it .
SA - no problem.

Ugh. I learned long ago not to ask SAs for help because of exactly the situation you describe here! So many places are so desperate for help that they hire any warm body off the street, so too many SAs have no idea what they carry or where it might be found, let alone how it fits. It is easier just to investigate on my own than to ask for "help"!

But what a shame when an SA costs the store money instead of makes it.

Avoid SAs at all costs. Although this one sounds like a doozy. Here the pharmacies also sell makeup and there are these extremely annoying SAs that pounce on you if you even walk by. And they typically know NOTHING.

A helpful SA is worth their weight in gold. There used to be a wonderful one at our BR, for several years. She influenced several of my buying decisions. Sadly, she’s no longer there.
