High waisted denim skirt

In continuing my denim shift...
So last week I tried on this skirt at Anthroplogie, but it wasn't fitting quite right. But I really liked it. So yesterday I went back to try it again, and realized it was quite high waisted and once I pulled it up it fit much better. As an aside I still haven't decided on the dress.

So the image is from the lookbook and is style with a very cropped top, which is NOT happening.
I think a cropped top does need to work here because otherwise the waist is obscured. Also I was thinking something boho-ish. Or slim tucked in.

Fun skirt!

I love how it looks with the tie shirt.

For myself, I am wary of button up skirts made in stiff fabrics. This is because they fail the sit test. They tend to bunch up around the middle in a weird way. Even the A-line versions. But new fabrications may have changed things. (After all, the last time I probably wore a skirt like this was in the 90s or even farther back in the actual 70s.)

Anna, I could see this with a boxy slightly cropped top, in some sort of stiffish material. Kinda like the crop tee you linked above but in a more substantial fabric, like neoprene maybe so it stands out more from the body.

Or what about with a buttoned up denim jacket like Angie posted about last week? A denim-on-denim faux dress sort of thing?

I like the high necked top with the black tie. Not sure about the super boho blouses although I'm sure you could pull it off. I think my uncertainty has to do with the fact that I wore this look ~10 years ago (boho embroidered blouse + slightly a-line denim mini).

ETA: Does the skirt move around on you? I have sworn off of denim skirts because they are too stiff and never, ever stay put on me and rotated around like crazy. So they all ended up as high rise minis on me because they'd ride up to my natural waist. Ha, I guess I was just 10 years ahead of my time.

The skirt is a stretchy denim, so I think it should be ok. Not stiff. Yeah I gave away my denim pencil about four years ago.

ETA Though I think the sleeves aren't quite right, too architectural

Cute skirt - and I really like it with the white shirt and ribbon tie!
Did you try the sit-down test with the skirt? I'd be concerned about it gapping and riding up - especially since it is so short.

It's so cute and I do like it better than the dress but it's very short? At the beach or for a super casual summer thing with one of the boho tops or even a rumpled button down could be really cute but the high collar reads more street wear and it's very short for the street.
